CLARKSON -- Dan Bowlin, 62, of Clarkson, died Wednesday, April 17, 2013, in Camdenton, Missouri.
A "Celebration of Life" service will be held on Monday, April 21 at 11 a.m. at the Clarkson Opera House with Rev. Cathy Allen officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday from 3-6 p.m. at the Miller Funeral Home and continue on Monday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Opera House. Memorials are suggested to those of the family or donor's choice.
Dan Bowlin was born December 19, 1950, in Canton, Illinois, to William and Anamae (Williams) Bowlin. He graduated from Lincoln East High School, Lincoln, in 1969. Dan went on to college at Chadron State College.
Dan entered the insurance business with Allstate Insurance Company, and then entered into a partnership in the Independent Insurance Agency. He purchased and was presently operating his own insurance agency in Clarkson, "Dan Bowlin Insurance Services" for the past 29 years. Prior to Dan taking over, it was known as Ivan Haist Insurance.
He had served as president and/or a member of the Clarkson Planning Commission for four terms, a member of the Clarkson Board of Adjustment for two terms, and was past president and a 19-year member of the Clarkson Volunteer Fire Department. He was a firefighter, Bunker-Gear Softball and water-fight team member.
Dan had served the community as past T-Ball/Baseball program coach when his children were young. Clarkson Slow Pitch league member, past president, 29-year member and current 12-year secretary of the Clarkson Commercial Club, Czech Days set-up, take-down, street dance and food-stand volunteer. He has been the Czech Days foot-stand shift chairman for 27 years. Dan has been the chairman of the Christmas promotion; past chairman for the Halloween Haunted House, Pancake Day and Thanksgiving promotions, annual banquet prep and service. Annual golf outing instructor and the Clarkson Rodeo cook and gatekeeper held in June. He had been the banquet prep and server at Farmer's Union Co-op annual banquet, the Clarkson Schools Booster Club Member/Sponsor, Yearbook sponsor, Prom and Awards Night Banquet preparation, Post Prom sponsor/supporter, consumer math insurance class volunteer.
His love of the outdoors had given him the opportunity of being the past president and 28-year officer of the Platte Valley Bassmaster. He was the founding president and 27-year officer of the Maple Creek Pheasants Forever. This organization was dear to his heart, for all the money collected from this banquet stays local and is reinvest into the landowners to establish habitat for the wildlife found around Clarkson and in the surrounding areas.
Dan has also been the past officer and sponsor at the Club 91 Golf Course, was a sponsor of the Colfax County Fair, Leigh High School yearbook sponsor as well as the Howells High School yearbook sponsor.
Dan's additional interest included Past City Champ and 27-year member of the Leigh Bowling League, Club 91 Golf Course, hunting, camping, boating, and fishing. He was a five time MR Bass and the Platte Valley Bassmaters, twice Platte Valley Bassmaster State Team Champions, Nebraska Bass Federation State Tournament 4th place, 2nd place, and 1st place finishes. Dan was on four Nebraska Regional Teams with one team championship at the Arkansas Central Divisional in 2009.
Dan is survived by: son – Lawrence "Buddy" (Heidi) Bowlin of Palmyra, grandchildren – Zachary and Reagan; daughter – Jamie Bowlin of Lincoln, grandchildren – Ryan and Cadance; daughter – Kelly (Josh) Bousum of Omaha, grandchildren – Lilly, Trisden, Morgan, and Joslyn; daughter – Kimberly (Shawn) Sullivan of Wallace, grandchildren – Ethan, Tyson, and Austin; companion – Kathy Musil of Clarkson, her children – Karina (Jason) Lockman, Caleb and Grant, and Ashley (Heath Staples) Molacek; brother – Tom (Diane) Bowlin of Bennet; sister – Becci (Steve) Ehlers of Walnut.
Dan was preceded in death by: parents – William and Anamae Bowlin.
