Darryl Hanson Obituary

GENOA - Darryl Hanson, 66, of Genoa, died Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2017, at Genoa Community Hospital.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church with Father Bill L'Heureux celebrating the Mass. Interment will be in Valley View Cemetery with military honors by the Edward H. Larson Post 144 American Legion Honor Guard. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, with a 7 p.m. vigil, and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday, all at the church.

Darryl Allen Hanson was born in Genoa on Aug. 21, 1950, to Albert and Lorene (Rinke) Hanson. He graduated from Genoa High School in 1968. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army on July 24, 1969, and was honorably discharged on Feb. 26, 1971. When he returned home he attended Central Community College in Columbus where he obtained his degree in auto mechanics. He worked at Sullivan Motors in Albion for over 15 years before opening Darryl's Bar in Genoa. Darryl was active in the American Legion for over 34 years. His passion was restoring classic cars. He enjoyed participating in many car shows with his beloved '62 Impala.

Darryl is survived by his daughters, Tara (Jason) Morisch of Columbus and Darcy (Adam) Parr of Lincoln; sons, Derek (Dee) Hanson of Columbus and Wade Hanson and fiancée Miranda Cynova of Lincoln; grandchildren, Tyler, Baylee and Hudson Parr and Dane and Delaney Hanson; sister, Roberta (James) Sutton; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Darryl was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Lorene Hanson; and brother, David Hanson.
