COLUMBUS -- Delores "Dee"H. Schneider, 83, of Columbus, died Tuesday, January 14, 2014, at Edgewood Vista in Columbus.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, January 20, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, in Columbus, with Pastor Dusty Sprague officiating. Interment will be in the Columbus Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at Gass Haney Funeral Home and continue on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church. There will be a family prayer service on Monday at 10:15 a.m. at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church, Platte County Historical Society or the Cedars Home For Children.
Delores was born June 24, 1930, in Syracuse, to Ernest and Mabel Mae (Fellows) Ebeler. She graduated from Elmwood High School and went on to earn a business degree from the National Business Institute in Lincoln. Dee worked at Crum & Forster Insurance Company, in Lincoln, and on November 4, 1950, Delores was united in marriage to William Schneider in Lincoln. After her marriage, Dee became a "stay at home mom" until 1968 when she began working at JC Penny in Columbus as a bookkeeper.
In the late 1980's, Dee and Bill built a log home near Loma. They enjoyed spending time with family and friends at this home while still keeping a home in Columbus. In 1996, Dee retired from JC Penny and in 1997 the couple made Columbus their permanent home. Dee enjoyed collecting bears, traveling across the United States and visiting foreign countries, gardening, flowers, and spending time with family, friends, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Both Dee and Bill were involved with politics. They believed in working for a cause and supporting the candidates of their choice. They enjoyed going to political parties and events. In 1974, Dee was awarded the "Columbus Major Status of Women Commission" by Mayor Gerber and Governor James Exon. She was extremely proud of this award. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Starlighters Extension Club, Bridge Clubs, and the First United Methodist Church.
Dee is survived by her husband, William 'Bill' Schneider, of Columbus; daughter, Jackie (John) Skalak, of Columbus; daughter, Sandy Schneider, of Grand Island; daughter, Laurie (Allen) Garretson, of Columbus; daughter, Billie Jo (Jay) Machmueller, of Broken Arrow, Okla.; grandchildren, Tim (Catherine) Garretson, of Bellwood, Christy (Ray) Hough, of Grain Valley, Mo., Joey Held Jr., of Columbus, Cole Machmueller, of Broken Arrow, Okla., Kyle Machmueller, of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Jennifer Schneider, of Pittsburgh, Pa.; great-grandchildren, Dylan Garretson, Aidan Hough and Alex Hough; sister, Phyllis (Lee) Fischer, of Lincoln; brother-in-law, Donald Schneider, of Chandler, Ariz.; and sister-in-law, Bette Tominac, of Knoxville, Tenn.
Dee was preceded in death by her daughter, Renae Ann Schneider; parents, Ernest and Mabel Ebeler; and three sisters.
