CRESTON - Elsie Bieberdorf, 97, of Creston, died Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at the Golden Livingcenter in Columbus.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2011, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, in Creston, with Rev. Marsha Jark-Swain officiating. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Creston. Memorials may be directed to St. Peter's Lutheran Church.
Elsie Bieberdorf was born April 19, 1914, in Henry, S.D., to Edward and Pauline (Ritke) Hein. Elsie grew up and completed high school in Henry. She worked in the pattern department and provided sewing instruction at Penney's in Rapid City, S.D.
Elsie married George Bieberdorf in 1936. Elsie and George owned the Coast to Coast Hardware store in Julesburg, Colo., and later lived in Rapid City, S.D. They lived in Columbus for several years before retiring to Creston.
Elsie was active in the Lutheran church wherever she lived. She became ill with Alzheimer's disease in 1989. George took care of her for as long as he was able, and in 1994, she moved to the Golden Livingcenter in Columbus.
Elsie is survived by her sister, Lydia Hein Schmidt, of Ft. Collins, Colo.; sister, Alma Markert, of Chicago; daughter-in-law, Nancy Bieberdorf, of Naples, Fla.; grandchildren, John Bieberdorf and Janette Hazelett, of Mason City, Iowa, Christine (Randy) Theiss, of Minneapolis, Ann (Vladimir) Borombozin, of Hollywood, Fla.; great-grandchildren, Nathan John Pete Bieberdorf, Stephen Olaf Hazelett, Elizabeth Iva Hazelett, Victoria Carol Hazelett, Tyler Borombozin, and Alex Borombozin.
Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Pauline Hein; husband, George Bieberdorf; son, Alan Bieberdorf; infant daughter in 1939; siblings, Emil, Hulda, Arnold, and Clarence.
Our extended family thanks the Golden Livingcenter administration and staff, who have cared for Elsie these many years. We thank Elsie and George's friends and neighbors, especially Darlene Bachmann from Creston, who visited and cared for Elsie throughout her illness. We also thank St. Peter's Lutheran Church and all their pastors throughout the years who have provided pastoral care to both George and Elsie.
