Gerald McNally, 66, of Schuyler, died Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2022, at CHI Memorial Hospital in Schuyler.
Mass of Christian Burial was at 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 29, 2022, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. Augustine's with the Rev. Gerry Gonderinger as celebrant. Visitation was from 2-5 p.m. Sunday with sharing of memories at 5 p.m. at Kracl Funeral Chapel in Schuyler. Visitation was from 8:30-9:30 a.m. at Kracl Funeral Chapel. Committal in the Schuyler Cemetery. Lunch following in the church hall.
Jerry was born July 11, 1956, in Schuyler to Leo and Mildred (Renner) McNally. He graduated from Schuyler Central High School in 1974, where he was a great athlete, especially in basketball and track. He was state champion in the shot put his senior year. He attended Doane College. On Oct. 6, 1979, he married Judy Kroeger at St. Augustine's Catholic Church in Schuyler. Together they had two children, Ashley and Brett. They lived in Schuyler where he worked for Mel Sahs and then for Cargill for over 33 years, retiring in July of 2021. Jerry loved the outdoors, especially hunting with Brett. He had started duck hunting again and spent many hours at the island mowing, working on projects and enjoying the cabin with his family. He loved going to garage sales, auctions and taking day trips to nearby towns to check out their shops and restaurants. He was very handy building and fixing things, even if he wouldn't admit it.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Judy of Schuyler; children, Ashley McNally of Kearney and Brett McNally of Schuyler; sisters, Karen (Dennis) Waak of Schuyler, Sharen (Ken) Hunt of Kansas City and Mary Hoelscher of Lincoln; brother-in-law, Duane Kroeger and Barb Thompson of Schuyler; sisters-in-law, Jane Kroeger of Schuyler and Carolyn (Doug) Grey of Tiburon, California; nieces, Emily (Jason) Goldman and Maggie (Jay) Harris, all of Greenbrae California, Molly (Mohammad) Kushan of Abu Dhabi, UAE, Jessica (Aaron) Dinslage of Omaha; nephews, Mark (Mary) Grotelueschen of Richland and Jonathan Waak of Lincoln; several great-nieces and -nephews and many cousins and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Leo (2006) and Mildred (2015); sister, Betty Grotelueschen (2005); brother-in-law, Allen Grotelueschen (2020); parents-in-law, Norval (1991) and Irene (2011) Kroeger.
