COLUMBUS - Gladys Lloyd, 88, of Columbus, died Saturday, June 27, 2015, at Golden LivingCenter in Columbus.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, at St. Luke's United Church of Christ in Columbus with the Rev. Chris McArdle officiating. Private family interment will be held in Roselawn Cemetery prior to the service. There will be no visitation. Memorials are suggested to St. Luke's United Church of Christ.
Gladys Lloyd was born Jan. 1, 1927, in Oconee to William and Grace (Donaldson) Will. Gladys was baptized and confirmed at St. Luke's Evangelical Reformed Church (now St. Luke's United Church of Christ). She attended Platte County District #25 Oconee Grade School and graduated from Monroe High School in 1945. On Oct. 1, 1948, Gladys was united in marriage to David W. Lloyd in Seward.
David and Gladys farmed in the Monroe area until the mid-1980s when they retired and moved into Columbus. Gladys was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 322 of Monroe and a lifelong member of St. Luke's United Church of Christ where she was active in the Anna Circle. She enjoyed trying her hand at drawing, playing cards and trips to the casino. Later in life, after David's death, Gladys enjoyed traveling and going out to eat with her dear friend, Carroll Borchers.
Gladys is survived by her sisters, Helen Chohon of Columbus, Ardith Pearson of Ankeny, Iowa, and Darlene (Stanley) Bachman of Creston; brother, Arnold (Carol) Will of Bradshaw; sisters-in-law, Jean Will of Columbus and Clare Will of Norfolk; special nephew, Ken Lloyd of Silver Creek; special friend, Marlene (Larry) Svoboda of Columbus; special companion, Carroll Borchers of Columbus; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, William and Grace Will; husband, David W. Lloyd; son, David Lee Lloyd; brothers, William Jr. and Loren Will; sister and brother-in-law, Minerva (Carl) Christensen; and brothers-in-law, Elmer Chohon and Dwight Pearson.
