Gloria E. Boschen, 91, of Newman Grove, Neb., passed away Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at Boone County Health Center, Albion, Neb.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Newman Grove, Neb. with Pastor Claire Meyer officiating. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m., Monday at the church. Interment will follow in the Hope Cemetery, Newman Grove, Neb.

Gloria Elizabeth Boschen was born March 8, 1933, at the hospital in Tilden, Neb., to Fred and Alma (Peterson) Kohl. She received her education starting in a rural country school District 50, in the West Emerick community of Madison County and in the 5th grade, moved with her parents to the Meadow Grove Public school district and completed her education from the 12th grade, graduation in 1950. Gloria was baptized at the United Methodist Church in Meadow Grove, Neb., and was confirmed at St. Matthews Lutheran Church on June 2, 1946, by Rev. F.C. Schmidt. On November 19, 1950, she was united in marriage to Dennis W. Boschen at St. Matthews Lutheran Church by the same Reverend. They lived their entire married life together on the farm in the Newman Grove area except for two years in the 50's when they were employed in Omaha due to drought conditions at home. The fall of 1956, the returned to the Newman Grove area and at that time transferred their church membership from St. Matthews to Trinity Lutheran Church of Newman Grove, Neb., and found employment until moving to a farm in the spring. Gloria was a farm wife but also worked in the nursing field first at the Lutheran Hospital in Norfolk and later in the Newman Grove Community Hospital.
In 1962, Gloria and Dennis adopted Larry and George and in 1969, they adopted Kristin. After her family was grown, she again returned to working outside of the home. This time she worked at a veterinary clinic for eight years before retiring and moving into town. Being the only child, she attended to the care of her aging parents for several years, mostly in her home so as to be able to also care for her own family. Gloria cared for her husband during his two-year long battle with Leukemia and after his death, she became the primary care giver for her mother-in-law for the next 13 years.
Gloria taught the 7th grade Sunday School class for 21 years and also, taught Bible School classes for 21 years in the "good old days" when there were full day classes at Trinity Lutheran Church, she had taught also before her marriage at St. Matthews Bible School and Sunday School. She held and served various offices of the Women's organizations and Bible Study's. Together Dennis and Gloria were sponsors for the Trinity Luther League for a number of years. In 1963, Gloria invited friends and neighbors to her home and the "You and I" extension club was formed with 12 members. Shortly after a group of 20 neighbors began meeting every Friday night from fall to spring to play Pinochle and enjoy each other's company. Gloria served on the board of the Newman Grove Housing Authority for several years and on the county election board. In 2002, Gloria was presented with the Pioneer Farm Award for 100 years of continues family farm ownership by the AK-SAR-BEN Foundation and the Nebraska Farm Bureau.
Gloria is survived by her two sons: Larry (Barb) Boschen of Newman Grove, Neb.; George Boschen of Gothenburg, Neb.; one daughter, Kristin (Ronald) Stock of Columbus, Neb.; five grandchildren: Jessica (Mike) Kroeger; Sheldon (Ashley) Boschen; Seth (Kathryn) Boschen; Alicia (Andrew) Kunst; Cassidy Boschen; nine great-grandchildren: Emma, Daniel, and Elkin Knust; Oliva, Isabella, Aaron, Aurora, and Silas Boschen; Nate Kroeger; brother-in-law, Steve (Nancy) Boschen, of Broken Bow, Neb.; sister-in-law, LaRue Shup of Omaha, Neb.; along with many other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents: Fred and Alma (Peterson) Kohl; husband, Dennis, in 2002; an infant brother; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Julius and Emelene (Duhachek) Boschen; brother-in-law, Glen Boschen; and great-grandson, Nick Kroeger.
