Richard Boschen Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by G.H. Herrmann Funeral Homes - Greenwood on Mar. 18, 2026.
Richard L. Boschen

December 5, 1945 - March 18, 2026

With faith in the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ, we celebrate and remember the life of a devoted husband, father, grandfather, veteran, and friend.

He was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Morris Grant Boschen and Mabel E'Thel (Billie) Boschen. At a young age, he developed a love for the Indianapolis Speedway and all things cars. After graduating from Pike High School in 1964, he served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1964 to 1968 as a radio repair technician including 18 months in Vietnam, where he worked diligently to ensure communications for Marines in the field. He remained deeply proud of his military service and valued the camaraderie of fellow veterans.

Following his military service, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana University. He began his professional career in 1968 as an engineer at Indiana Bell, where he worked for nearly three decades before enjoying an early retirement in 1996. For more than 25 years, he also worked off and on as a broadcast engineer for various sporting events, including Indiana University athletics, the Indiana Pacers, and the NFL Combine. In 2011, he received one of the titles he cherished most, Grandpa. He took that role very seriously, providing love, guidance, and care to his grandchildren.

In April 1979, he married the love of his life, Judy (Jannusch), and together they built a family grounded in faith and love. He was the proud father of four children: Lorie (Boschen) Norris, Jacob Boschen, Sara (Boschen) Wetzel, and Autumn, who was stillborn but forever held in the hearts of the family. He was a devoted grandfather to Aedan, Audrey, and Avery, who brought him immense joy.

His garage was often his favorite place to be, where he could tinker, repair, and enjoy the simple satisfaction of working with his hands. He especially loved his classic Barracuda and treasured long road trips and travel adventures. One of his proud accomplishments was riding his motorcycle through all 48 contiguous states. He also loved sports, especially Indiana University basketball and the Indiana Pacers and faithfully followed them over the years. His quick wit and dry, sarcastic humor kept family and friends laughing and ensured there was never a dull moment.

His faith was a central part of his life. He was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church and current member of Emmanuel Church, where he valued fellowship, Bible study groups, and meaningful conversations about faith and life. His trust in Christ guided him throughout his life. One of his favorite Bible verses was John 14:6: "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

He is survived by his loving wife, his children, daughter-in-law Karen (Frazier) Boschen, his cherished grandchildren and his siblings Kathryn (Boschen) Mazzoli, Rebecca (Boschen) Clerkin, and Jerry Boschen, along with many friends and extended family members who were blessed to know him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Kurt Boschen, and his infant daughter Autumn.

He will be remembered for his service, his faith, his love of family, and the quiet way he cared for those around him. While he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in the promise that he is now at peace in the presence of the Lord.

Visitation will be held from 10:00am until the service time at 1:00pm Saturday, March 21, 2026 at

G.H. Herrmann Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 1605 S. State Road 135, Greenwood, Indiana 46143. Richard will be laid to rest at The Gardens at Olive Branch Cemetery.

Yesterday

We have fond memories of worshiping with Dick & Judy at St. John as well as meaningful discussions in our small group Bible study. Rick especially enjoyed his friendship with Dick, whether it was discussing practical trustee-type issues or more lighthearted topics like the Pacers. We look forward in faith to when we will meet again in Christ.
