Robert "Bob" Edward Decker, a devoted family man and cherished member of his community, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2026, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Born on October 7, 1935, in Indianapolis, Bob lived a life characterized by quiet strength, kindness, and unwavering love for those close to him.
Bob was married to his beloved wife Sylvia for 63 years, a partnership marked by deep mutual respect and affection until her passing. Their marriage was the cornerstone of his life, and his dedication as a husband was mirrored in his role as a father and grandfather. He is lovingly remembered by his three surviving daughters, Janet (Leroy) Mullins, Rhonda Dolph, and Gayle Decker, who carry forward his legacy of compassion and humility. He was also a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren, a great-grandfather to eleven great grandchildren, and a great-great-grandfather to three, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
In addition to his living family members, Bob's memory is honored alongside those of his late wife Sylvia Decker, his daughter Diana McKinney, and his son-in-law Don Dolph, all of whom predeceased him, leaving a void that is deeply felt by all who knew him.
Bob served his country with honor in the Army, a testament to his commitment and sense of duty. Beyond his military service, he nurtured a love for reading and spent countless hours enjoying the company of his family. He was also an enthusiast of old cars, appreciating their history and craftsmanship, which reflected his own values of tradition and enduring quality.
Known for being kind, humble, and very quiet, Bob expressed his love through actions rather than words. His family was his world, and his home was always a gathering place where warmth and laughter were constants.
A visitation will be held on March 21, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Woodside Community Church in Greenwood, Indiana. Following this, the funeral service will commence at 1:00 p.m. at the same location. The day's remembrances will conclude with a graveside service at East Hill Cemetery in Morgantown, Indiana, beginning at 2:45 p.m.
Robert Edward Decker’s presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit endures in the hearts of his family and all who were fortunate to know him. His life was a quiet testament to the profound impact that love, dedication, and integrity can have on a community and family. May he rest in peace.
