Richard T. Starkey passed away on January 15, 2026. He was a lifelong resident of Indianapolis, Indiana. He was an alumni of Pike High School, received his B.A. Degree from the University of Indianapolis, and his M.A. Degree in Education from Indiana University. He was a teacher having taught Art and Social Studies for four years in Wayne Township and finished his career with thirty years in the Indianapolis Public Schools, retiring in 1995.
Cremation will be handled by Flanner Buchanan Funeral Home, with his ashes entombed at the Oaklawn Memorial Gardens - Good Shepard Mausoleum, 9700 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis, Indiana.
Survivors include: Carsey Gentry, spouse for 68 years, sister Debra (Ken) Sparks, brother Joseph (Denyce) Heidelman and their children Chad (Amy) Sparks, Kelly (Nick Gasbarro) Sparks, Heather (Bill) Becker, and Joshua (Susan) Heidelman, along with many loving friends and relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents Raymond Ores and Emma Jean Starkey. There will be no services as Richard wanted all his family, friends, and students to remember him as they knew him.
Memorial contributions may be made in Richard’s name to the Indy Humane Society, at 7972 North Michigan Road, Indianapolis, IN 46268.
