Irene Malasek
COLUMBUS - Irene Malasek, 94, of Columbus, died Friday, April 30, 2010, at Morys Haven in Columbus.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, at Zion Lutheran Church in Leigh, with Rev. Terry Timm officiating. Burial will be at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Leigh.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, at Gass Haney Funeral Home. Visitation will continue 9:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday, with a 10:15 a.m. family prayer service, at the church.
Irene was born Dec. 26, 1915, on the family farm near Creston, to Edward and Elise (Korte) Hake. She attended Creston School rural District 78. Prior to her marriage, Irene did house keeping for many family members. On February 20, 1941, she was united in marriage to Victor Malasek at Zion Lutheran Church in Leigh. They made their home on Victor's family farm north of Leigh. She was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church where she was involved in many church organizations as well as the choir. She was a past 4-H leader, enjoyed playing cards, gardening, and was a very good seamstress. Irene has been a resident of Columbus since 1989.
Irene is survived by her daughter, Janelle (David) Groteluschen, of Columbus; son, Dale (Jan) Malasek, of Kansas City, Mo.; sister, Mabel (Gordon) Asche, of Columbus; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Lola Hake and Mildred Hake both, of Leigh.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Victor Malasek, who died in 1989; parents, Edward and Elise Hake; three Brothers, Ewald Hake, Vernon Hake and Elmer Hake; and sister-in-law, Lillian Hillen.
