James Prigioni Obituary

STROMSBURG - James "Jimmy" Prigioni, 93, of Stromsburg, formerly of New York, died Monday, Dec. 29, 2003, in York.

Services are 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg. Burial will be 11 a.m. April 24, 2004, at St. Raymond's Cemetery in New York.

Mr. Prigioni was born Jan. 31, 1910, in Rivanazzano, Italy, to Enrico and Ercolina (Taverna) Prigioni. He was educated in music and the arts in Rivanazzano. He left home at age 18 to travel the world on ocean liners as an orchestra leader.

He married Amelia Rossi of New York on Nov. 23, 1932, in Italy. They returned to New York where they eventually owned and operated Jimmy's La Grange. In 1996 they moved to York, and in 1999 to Polk. One year later he and his wife moved to Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg.

He was a musician and composer. He enjoyed entertaining, playing the violin, piano and guitar, sports, and dancing.

Survivors include one son, Julius (Mary) of Melbourne, Fla.; four grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife.
