OLATHE, Kan. - Jean Vranicar passed away Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011, at the Santa Marta Skilled Nursing Center in Olathe, Kan.
Jean was born in Newton, Iowa, on Nov. 14, 1926, and was the only child of Leland and Margaret Anderson. She graduated from the University of Iowa, where she was an active member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority, in May of 1948. She married Len Vranicar on July 24, 1948, and they moved to Stanton in 1955 where they raised and educated their seven children. Jean and Len immersed themselves in the life of their "small town" and were active at St. Peter's Catholic Church, bridge clubs, and their children's athletic teams. In 1989, Jean and Len moved to Omaha; Len died in May 1998 just two months before their golden wedding anniversary. In 2003, Jean moved to the Kansas City area.
An only child herself, Jean thoroughly enjoyed her role as wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, homemaker and teacher of her large family. She masterfully and lovingly cared for her husband and each of her children and grandchildren. She provided a model for her entire family to care for each other and for others. Her spark, energy and example lives on in the lives of all who knew her. Although a long bout with Alzheimer's Disease robbed Jean of her memory during her last years, she never lost her grace and tenacity.
Jean is survived by her children and their spouses, Greg (and Marilyn) of Overland Park, Kan., Rick (and Kathy) of Ralston, Janie (and Ray) Lewis of Benicia, Calif., David (and Betsy) of Overland Park, Kan., Julie of Columbus, Joan (and John) Bugh of Plano, Texas, and Jim (and Amy) of Shawnee, Kan. She also leaves seven grandsons and seven granddaughters and one granddaughter-in-law to cherish her memory. Seven was truly a lucky number for Jean.
A memorial service of Jean's life will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 29 at Heafey Funeral Home at 7805 W. Center Road, Omaha, 68124. The family will host a reception following the service. In lieu of flowers, we suggest a donation to Boys Town, 14100 Crawford St., Omaha, NE, 68010 or to the charity of your choice.
