GENOA - John Kaup, 72, of rural Genoa, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005, at his home.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Genoa, with the Rev. Robert Nienaber officiating. Burial is at Valley View Cemetery, with military rites by American Legion Post No. 151 of Fullerton. Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, with a 7 p.m. rosary, at the church. Patrick's Funeral Home in Genoa is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Kaup was born Feb. 20, 1933, in Stuart, to Leo and Loretta (Albrecht) Kaup. He graduated from Genoa Public High School in 1951. He worked at the family newspaper, Genoa Leader Times, following high school. In March of 1953, he entered the United States Army, serving in Korea until his honorable discharge in February of 1954.
He married Lillian Swalec June 26, 1954, in Krakow. He worked at the Columbus Telegram, Lindsay Manufacturing and as a supervisor in the tool and dye department at D&L. He retired in 1997.
He was a member of the church and American Legion Post No. 151 of Fullerton.
Survivors include his wife of Genoa; his mother, Loretta Wewel of Columbus; three daughters, Kristine (Larry) Hank of Columbus, Kathryn (Tim) Shoat of St. Edward and Karol (Todd) Connelly of Genoa; two brothers, Glen Kaup of Genoa and Mike (LaVonne) Kaup of Columbus; two sisters, Sharron Pleiss of Omaha and Kathleen (Bob) Yates of Lincoln; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father.
