Joseph Bstandig Obituary

Joseph Robert Bstandig

September 2, 1949 - August 29, 2025

Joseph "Joe" Robert Bstandig, 75, of Gretna, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2025.

Joe was born on September 2, 1949, in Norfolk, Nebraska, to Joseph Otto and Helen Delores (Clinch) Bstandig, and grew up in Stanton, Nebraska. After graduating from Stanton High School, he attended Wayne State College, where he graduated in 1971. While at Wayne State, he met the love of his life, Marcella Ann Thomson. They married on December 28, 1970, and shared a beautiful 54-year marriage. Together, they raised three wonderful children - Justin, Jennifer, and Jocelyne - who were Joe's greatest pride and joy.

A man of hard work and dedication, Joe devoted his 37-year career to Vishay in Columbus, Nebraska, where he held a variety of roles. Beyond work, he had a passion for travel and exploring the world. His journeys took him to Italy, France, Ireland, Israel, Japan, Turks & Caicos, Croatia, Montenegro, Greece, and countless other destinations. Whether strolling the streets of a new city or taking in the beauty of a far-offshore, he embraced each adventure with curiosity, gratitude, and a warm smile.

At home, Joe was a loyal Nebraska Cornhuskers fan, rarely missing a game and cheering with great enthusiasm. His faith was central to his life - he was a devout Catholic and proud member of the Knights of Columbus.

Joe's warmth, humor, and love of life touched everyone he met. He will be remembered for his kindness, adventurous spirit, devotion to family, and a life well lived.

He is survived by his loving wife, Marcella; his children, Justin (Yuridia) Bstandig, Jennifer Bstandig, and Jocelyne (Sean) McColley; grandchildren, Jose and Jacey Bstandig and Madeline McColley; his brother, Jim (Susan) Bstandig; many nieces and nephews; and dear friends, Steve and Terry Hiemer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Helen Bstandig.

May Joe's memory bring comfort to those who knew him and serve as a lasting tribute to his life. Visitation will be held on Saturday September 6, 2025, from 10:00 to 10:30 AM, with a Funeral Mass following at 10:30 AM at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church 7790 S 192nd Street Gretna, Nebraska. A luncheon will follow at the church. Burial will be held in Aurora, Nebraska, at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church of Gretna.

Joe was a colleague, a mentor, a friend, and my Vishay golf tournament partner. Although we only spoke several times a year, I miss his conversations already. My sympathies to his wife, children, and family as Joe will be missed.

Our sympathy to you, Marcella and family. It´s been a long time ago that we first were neighbors in that apartment in Columbus! Our prayers are with you.
