Lawrence Schmid Obituary

BELLWOOD - Lawrence C. Schmid, 84, of Bellwood, died Thursday, Oct. 21, 2010 at his home near Bellwood.

Private family services will be held at a later date at the Kracl Funeral Chapel of David City.

Lawrence was born Jan. 25, 1926, in Shelbya to George and Viola (McDonald) Schmid. He attended schools in Polk County. He served in the United States Navy during WWII. On Aug. 13, 1951, Lawrence married Jeanette Gossman in Marysville, Kan. They lived in Silver Creek until moving to Bellwood in 1961. He was co-owner in RLD, the family owned John Deere Dealer in David City for 26 years and farmed near Bellwood. He loved baseball and golf and would winter in Arizona where he belonged to a Senior Softball League. He was a great fisherman and Nebraska fan.

Lawrence is survived by his wife, Jeanette of Bellwood; one daughter, Peggy and her husband Richard "Delt" Neuhaus of Lincoln; two sons, Dick (Jan) Schmid, David City, and Michael (Michelle) Schmid, Bruno; daughter-in-law, Diane Schmid, Agency, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Steven Schmid; grandson, Andy Neuhaus; and brother, Robert and his wife Irene Schmid.
