Lorene G. Morlok, widow of Frederick Staub and Herb Morlok, 89, of David City, died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2020, at St. Joseph's Villa in David City
Funeral services were held on Monday, Feb. 10 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in David City, with the Rev. David Palomaki officiating. Burial was in David City Cemetery. Family has requested in lieu of flowers, plants and statues, memorials be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church in David City or St. Joseph's Villa in David City. Thank you!!
Lorene was born on Feb. 12, 1930, to Walter and Elsie (Prochnow) Joseph in Elk Creek. She was baptized at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Elk Creek. She attended St. Peter's Lutheran School, where her father was her teacher up to the eighth grade. The family then moved to Columbus, where Lorene went on to graduate from Columbus High School in 1947. In May of 1949, Lorene married Frederick Staub. Two children, Scott and Kathy, were born to this union. On April 1, 1953, Frederick was killed in a traffic accident, leaving behind his widow, Lorene, and two young children. On June 1, 1956, she married Herb Morlok. They moved to David City, where they owned and operated the Coast to Coast Store, until selling the business in 1983. Herb passed away in November of 2012.
Lorene enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, and traveling to visit with her family and friends. She was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in David City.
Lorene is survived by her son, Scott (Arlys) Staub of Woodburn, Indiana, and daughter, Kathy(Greg) Connery of Wasilla, Alaska; five grandchildren: Michael (Clare) Staub, Aaron (Kelli) Staub, Jeremy (Becky) Staub, Kara (Zach )Howell and Morgan Connery; 11 great-grandchildren: Meredith, Gabby, Micah, Leah, Elizabeth, Nathanael, Mary, Andrew, Christina, Kellen and Quincy; one brother, James Joseph; sisters-in-law: Dorothy Joseph, Lorena Joseph and Francine Morlok; brother-in-law, Bill Timm; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Frederick Staub and Herb Morlok; brothers: Wilbur "Joe" Joseph, Ed (Vivian) Joseph, Gerald "Jerry" Joseph, Herb (Gloria) Joseph, Louis (Phylis) Joseph, Walter "Salty" (Marian and Kathy) Joseph and infant brother, Ervin Joseph; one sister, Delores Timm; brothers-in-law: Milton (Dorothy and Lillian) Staub, Adolph (Hallie) Morlok, Elmer Morlok; sisters-in-law: Hulda (Chester) Blaser, Irene (Ed) Schuphach and Fay Joseph.
