Millie was born Dec. 14, 1933, at St. Mary's Hospital in Columbus, to John and Marcella (Mueting) Roddy. She attended St. Bonaventure High School, graduating in May 1951. On Sept. 7, 1953, she was united in marriage to Donald "Red" Lee Korger at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church. She went with her husband to San Antonio, where he was stationed in the Air Force. They lived in Texas until Don was sent overseas. Millie then moved back to Columbus, where she gave birth on July 3, 1954, to their first child, Dave. Millie and Dave lived with her parents until Don returned from service. Their second child, Larry, was born in Columbus prior to moving to Milford, where Don attended Milford College. During this time, their first daughter, Kathy, was born at the Seward Hospital. After Milford, they returned to Columbus and were blessed with four more children, Susie, Steve, Tim and Dan. Together, Don and Millie lovingly raised their seven children, and were blessed with more than 50 years of marriage. They were also blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom they loved dearly and were very proud of.
Besides being a stay-at-home mom, and lovingly, but sternly, taking care of their children, preparing great meals, keeping the house cleaned, and many other household issues, Millie helped Don do the bookkeeping for the South Side Skelly Service Station and Car Wash, which they owned and operated for 25 years. Other jobs Millie has done throughout her life include working at St. Mary's Hospital and the Telephone Company before she married. Millie later worked at the First Ward Field School and Scotus Central Catholic in the cafeteria, Equitable Savings and Loan Bank as a cashier, Dickenson Trucking as a bookkeeper, and lastly, 16 years in the office at Wemhoff Manufacturing Company, from which she retired in 2014, at the age of 80.
Millie belonged to the Catholic Daughters of America, St. Isidore's Prayer Group, the Volunteer Firefighters Women's Auxiliary and the Ladies of the Knights of Columbus. Millie loved dancing, especially to polka music, bike riding, camping, playing cards and doing Sudoku puzzles, walking and exercising, going to the horse races, Friends of Music, Platte Valley Playhouse performances, and on bus trips to the casinos. She loved living at the lake and playing horseshoes, swimming, fishing and boating. But most of all, she loved just being with those most special to her, both family and friends. A few years after Don passed, Millie was blessed with a very special companion, Carroll Ebner, whom she shared many special moments and memories with, and who was always there with her and for her. Millie was a blessing to all who loved her and to everyone she met, because she always had a kind word and a smile for everyone. Her beautiful smile is now brightening the heavens above.
Millie is survived by son, Dave (Mary) Korger, son, Larry Korger (Susie Connelly); daughter, Kathy (Tim) Bonk, daughter, Susie (Darrell) Spulak; son, Steve Korger (Deb Goodus), son, Tim (Tammy) Korger, son, Dan (Kim) Korger; very special companion, Carroll Ebner; sister, Delores Goebel; brother, Milt (Joanie) Roddy; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Roddy; brother-in-law, Don (Lori) Hartl; 19 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Marcella Roddy; husband, Don Korger; brothers, Art Roddy, Ken Roddy, and Cliff Roddy; and sisters, Ann Beierle and Elaine Hartl.
