Richard Abraham Obituary

COLUMBUS - Richard "Dick" Abraham, 78, of Columbus, died Friday, March 27, 2015, at Brookestone Acres in Columbus.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Richard Donald Abraham (Abe) was born Sept. 15, 1936, in Scottsbluff to Donald and Ruth Abraham. He grew up in Mitchell and graduated from Mitchell High School in 1953. He earned a bachelor's degree from Kearney State College and master's degree in art and art history from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. His first teaching job was an art instructor at Minatare. He also taught at Fort Dodge High School in Iowa, Omaha South High School and in Zion, Illinois. In 1971, he moved to Columbus and went to work at Central Community College. Abe continued teaching art at the college until his retirement in 2001.

Abe was a member of the National Art Society and Nebraska State Art Association and was well recognized as an accomplished artist who won many awards in art competitions throughout the Midwest. There are approximately 45 of his works in private collections throughout the United States. Pieces of his works are also held by the Joslyn Art Museum and University of Northern Colorado.

Abe was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, William Abraham.
