Shirley Detlefsen Obituary

HUMPHREY - Shirley M. Detlefsen, 91, of Humphrey, died Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015, at Madison.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Humphrey with the Rev. Kris Rebentisch officiating. Interment will be in Humphrey Cemetery. Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Friday with the family at Duesman Funeral Chapel in Humphrey and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Shirley was born June 28, 1924, at Primrose, the daughter of Waldo E. and Cora M. (Smith) Wicks. She graduated from Humphrey High School and received a nursing degree from Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Omaha.

On Sept. 9, 1948, Shirley and Alvin P. Detlefsen were united in marriage at Corvalis, Oregon. She was a homemaker and pursued a career in nursing at the Norfolk Regional Center in Norfolk. Shirley was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She was very interested in antiques and shared her love with the grandchildren.

Surviving are her daughter, Shelley and Bob Noonan of Humphrey; sons, Tom Detlefsen of Beatrice, Robert and Ronda Detlefsen of North Liberty, Iowa, and David and Tamara Detlefsen of New Hope, Pennsylvania; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and brother, Leland and Patricia Wicks of Fort Smith, Arkansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alvin on Sept. 6, 2007; and daughter, Patricia Detlefsen on Aug. 17, 1958.

Memorials may be directed to the Humphrey Public Library.
