Thomas Glen Hayes was born August 20, 1952, in Pasco, Wash., to Glen and Mary Lou (Rodgers) Hayes. When he was five, they moved back to Decatur, Neb., where he attended school through the second grade. Tom then attended Busse Country School where his Aunt Mary Jane Hayes taught. He then returned to Decatur, where he graduated high school in 1971.
He met his future wife, Rose Ann Stafford, in kindergarten. The two were united in marriage in September of 1971. To this union, their three children were born: Blaine Thomas in 1977, Brooke Jarman in 1980, and Brante Leo in 1983.
Tom began his career with the Nebraska State Patrol in 1977. He was stationed in David City. After his retirement from NSP, he went back to work as an undercover investigator for Fillmore County. Tom was also a volunteer fireman, serving as president. He also served as a member of the David City Public School Board.
Most of all, Tom loved his family. He was always attending his children and grandchildren's activities, with PLENTY of Twizzlers to share. Whether it was sports or fine arts, rain or shine, he was sure to be there, proudly cheering them on. Win or lose, it didn't matter. It was all about his family.
