Janice Craig Obituary

Janice Marie Wheeler Craig, age 84, passed away in Roseville on October 6, 2016, three months after being diagnosed with cancer. She had been living with heart failure for the past 10 years. Janice left this world thankful for a wonderful life and loving family.

Janice was born August 15, 1932 in Corning to Harry St Clare and Doris Wheeler. She attended public schools there and married James Craig on June 18, 1949. Jim worked at the Craig Brothers' Gas Station across the street. They raised 5 children.

Janice was always a participant in her children's activities, having served as Brownie Girl Scout Leader and Cub Scout Den Mother, as well as Sunday School Teacher and Youth Group leader. She was an active member of the First Christian Church of Corning for many years. Janice also helped care for her husband's elderly father, Allan Craig, who lived with them for 13 years.

The family moved to Wheatland in 1965, where Jim worked as a math teacher at Bear River Middle School.

Janice earned an AA degree in Education & an Early Childhood Certificate from Yuba Community College in 1976. She worked as a teacher's aide for 11 years and held the job of clerk and medical biller in her daughter Susan's Fair Oaks medical office.

Janice is survived by her husband Jim and 4 children: David Craig (Michele) of Canandaigua, NY, Alice Wagner (David) of Longwood, FL, Susan Craig of Minneapolis, MN and Scott Craig of Auburn; as well as 11 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and her brother Keith Wheeler (Peggy) of Eureka. She was preceded in death by her son Stephen Craig and his wife Adella; her brother Andrew Wheeler; and sister Claire Johnson. Surviving Corning relations include sister-in-law Ann Craig, niece Bonnie Jackson and nephew Ken Craig.

Janice will be buried at Sunset Cemetery in Corning near her parents. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 15 at the First Christian Church, 1421 Marin St, Corning.
