Jedediah Smith Obituary
Jedediah "Jed" Cation Smith, 47, of Arbuckle CA, passed away unexpectedly on December 7th, 2024 of a fatal heart attack.
Jed was born on August 31st, 1977, to Candy Charter (Cation) & Gary Smith in Colusa CA. After Jed finished Peirce High school in 1995, he moved to Port Angeles, Washington to continue his education. He started down a cosmetology road like both his Mother & Father, but eventually returned home to Arbuckle for a different passion. He seemed drawn to pursuing a life of outdoor work, especially where moving dirt & rock were concerned! Jed was a Jack of all trades, a lover of all things adventurous. And above all curious about everything. He worked in the natural gas and explosive industry before he began operating heavy machinery, and continued that work throughout his life. If you needed a job done or if you found yourself in a pickle and needed a hand, he was a phone call away. His intelligence, abilities, and his heart were massive and endless. He dabbled in so many areas like internet connections, orchard removal, farming, landscaping, pond building, mechanics, welding, and so many other passions. He leaves behind seven children and the love of his life.
Jed's children and family were his entire world. Whether it was pioneering their construction company, J&H Smith Company, side by side with his eldest daughter Haleigh, collecting chicken eggs with his youngest daughter Charli, or teaching Emmalyn to be a farm girl, Jed was there for it all. His boys were his best friends. They enjoyed playing in the dirt, riding tractors, raising cattle and working the land. It was a source of enormous pride for Jed.
One of Jed's other passions was the love of his life, Crystal. And their life together that was centered around their family, and hard work. Jed's whole world was his family.
Jed was preceded in death by his father Gary, and his Grandma & Grandpa Smith, Grandma & Grandpa Charter, Grandma Cation, Uncle Jon and his Cousin Ryan. He is survived by his Mother Candy, Step Father Tom, Brothers Jamie, Jerry & Tom, Sisters Shara & Sarah, his love of more than a decade, Crystal Leffler and their children: Haleigh (22), Cation (15), Emmalyn(13), Calvin(10), Colsyn(7), Nathaniel(5), Charli(2), and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Jed will be laid to rest with a Graveside service at Arbuckle Cemetery on December 28th, 2024, at 11am followed by a celebration of his life at The Charter Barn in Arbuckle Ca. In lieu of flowers, the family requests support for the very young family Jed leaves behind.
