Anna Davant Johns

ANNA DAVANT JOHNS, 97, passed away Friday, October 20, 2006 at Allen Morgan Health Center. She was the daughter of Arthur R. Davant, Sr. and Harriet Maner Davant of Memphis. She was preceded in death by her husband of 29 years, Melvin William Johns in 1975. They resided and raised their family in Aurora, OH. Mrs. Johns returned to Memphis in 1997. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Arthur R. Davant, Jr., Mary Davant, Harriet Maner Davant, and Elizabeth Baker Davant, all of Memphis. Mrs. Johns was a graduate of Hutchison School and Tennessee College (currently Belmont University) and taught physical education. She was a Captain in The Women's Army Corps during WWII and served in the European theater. She was an active career woman until retirement at the age of 85. Mrs. Johns is survived by daughter, Harriet Johns Cox and son-in-law Tim Cox of Grand Rapids, MI; son, Thomas Davant Johns and daughter-in-law, Gretchen Schaef Johns of St. Louis, MO; granddaughter, Anna-Jane Cox Rudolph; and grandson, Jason Rudolph of Chicago, IL; and grandson, Allen Davant Johns Cox of Grand Rapids, MI.
