Herbert Phillips Obituary

HERBERT SHARLANDE PHILLIPS, JR., 67, of Memphis, died at his home on February 26, 2006. He was the son of the late Natalie Rives and Dr. Herbert Sharlande Phillips, Sr., of Holly Springs, MS. For many years, Mr. Phillips was a faithful member of Christ Episcopal Church in Holly Springs. He received his Bachelor's of Arts degree and Juris Doctor from the University of Mississippi. While attending Ole Miss, he was the president of his fraternity, Beta Theta Pi. He completed post-graduate work at Tulane University, New Orleans and New York University. Mr. Phillips was affiliated with the Department of Justice in Washington, DC. After leaving the Department of Justice, he returned home to Holly Springs and Memphis to pursue the practice of law. Mr. Phillips leaves a son, Herbert Sharlande Phillips, III; daughter-in-law, Hannah; and two grandchildren. He also leaves a sister, Martha Rives Phillips Smith; nephew, niece, and many other family members. Services will be held Friday, March 3 at 1 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church in Holly Springs, MS. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to Christ Episcopal Church. Holly Springs Funeral Home 662-252-1161
