JAMES MADISON WELLS Jr.

JAMES WELLS Obituary

James Madison Wells, Jr., age 76, of Cordova, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 3, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents: James Madison Wells, Sr., and Sadie Lee Clark Wells. Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Linda Grant Wells; one son, James Madison Wells, III and his wife, Amy; one granddaughter, Sadie Ann Wells; and one sister, Delia Wells Black, of Huntsville, AL. Born in Jackson, Mississippi, James was raised in Blue Mountain, MS, and always considered that to be home. He was a 1955 graduate of Ripley, MS High School, after which he served in the United States Air Force four years. He then would pursue his B.B.A. at the University of Mississippi, graduating in 1963. James was a municipal bond trader, at one time forming his own company, and eventually retired from Merrill Lynch after 20 years, as Municipal Bond Coordinator for the Southeast Region. His interests included reading, especially books about the Civil War and Abraham Lincoln. In addition, he was a devoted student of the Bible. He loved the game of bridge, and was an avid golfer, playing often at Colonial Country Club, where he was a member for 35 years. Jim was also an elder, and charter member of Redeemer Evangelical Church in Collierville, TN. The family will receive friends Thursday, August 7, from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m., with a memorial service to follow at 3 p.m. at Redeemer Evangelical Church, 3100 S. Houston Levee Rd., Germantown, TN 38139. Memorial contributions may be made to Redeemer Evangelical Church, or the charity of the donor’s choice. The Wells family expresses grateful appreciation for all the prayers and acts of support extended to them throughout Jim’s battle with cancer.

Linda, sorry to hear about James. I was in his class at Ripley High School. I lost my husband 31/2 year ago and I do know how you are feeling now. May God be with you.
