Mr. Henry was one of the best at Jesse H. Jones Sr. High School to have guided and led the students. The one thing that I've quoted through out my 53 years of life is when I heard him tell a young man that he did not need to get loud or ignorant with me because he had "The Power of The Pen." That stayed with me for life because even at the age of 17, I understood what that meant. He will always be missed and loved.

I was just thinking back to my years at Jones high school (83-86) and Mr. Henry came to mind. So sorry to see he passed away. He was very soft spoken, but he ran that school and he was feared by all those bad kids who skipped class (like me). He was a fair and good man and so different outside of the school. RIP Mr. Henry.

Cheryl, please know that you and your family are in my prayers. Your Father was a very tolerable and forgiving man because we (Vanguard students) challenged the heck out of him on a daily basis. But he, in his calm, cool demeanor always forgave us and let us make it. Mr. Henry was a great man.

Mr. Henry was a good assistant principal. If we had instructors and principals like Mr. Henry the school system would be so much better. Mr. Henry and Mr. Pace believe in structure at Jones high school. They not only practice discipline but they showed all students love and concern. I thank God for putting such a strong figure in my path while attending Jesse H. Jones. Class of "78"

Joseph has always been a wonderful father and grandfather whom I have had the pleasure of knowing all my life -- his daughter Cheryl is my cousin and their home was the only one I could "spend the night" back in the day as a child. He was always soft spoken and everyone knew how much he loved family and what a great coach/educator/administrator he was! As he joins in heaven my Mom Mattie Blackshear and Dad Hubert Blackshear -- there is joy and thanksgiving in all being together with the Lord!

My prayers and thoughts are with coach Henry's family. My most vivid memory of coach Henry is him stopping my foot from bleeding when I stepped on a broken bottle at the Independence Heights Park Pool. He showed me how to find the pressure points and stop the bleeding. Of course, being 10 years old, I had to mess with the gash and it began bleeding again. He stopped the bleeding again for me and then said, "Stop fooling with it!". He was always unassuming but he could coach quarterbacks. RIP coach Henry.

Mr. Henry was one if the greatest and positive male role model that all of his students at Jones could have. I remember when he told me one time that he was not chasing a student because he had the "Power of the Pen." When I grew up and got unto the real world, I knew exactly what he meant!
Rest In Peace Mr. Henry and Thank You for all that you've done for the students and SouthPark.

Prayers are lifted for the Henry family! I was double blessed because not only was Mr. Henry one of my APs while a scholar at Jones, I had the pleasure of working with him when I returned to Jones 10 years later in 1998 and he was subbing. I enjoyed listening to his stories of yesteryear, the country life and his love for his children. I will NEVER forget seeing him run down the halls of Jones after someone while wearing cowboy boots and he often CAUGHT the person!! :) Those were some great years!
May God bless and keep you all wrapped in his arms of comfort and love for the days, weeks, months and years to come!
