Dear, dear Lois,
Looked for you and Marty this afternoon at Jack Potts' memorial service, but didn't see you. After returning home, Marilyn got on the internet, and discovered Marty was translated into the arms of Jesus July 5th and his memorial service was held at Mt Park Church.
We are so sorry, we didn't know about either and missed his Celebration of Resurrection!
Both you and Marty made a significant investment in my life, especially during my teen years. It scares me to think of where I might be today if it weren't for the Young Life relational leaders who were there for me, loving me, believing in me, encouraging me, supporting me, and rooting for me as I have trudged the road of Faith over the past 59 years.
Our earth-bound Community of Faith has lost a dear, much loved and much appreciated saint!
There hangs on the wall of my heart few “portraits” of my spiritual heroes -- those whose life incarnated for me the grace and graciousness of Jesus Christ. Among them is your beloved's “portrait” which will remain until that time when we will all meet and embrace each other once again as whole persons fully restored and free from all character defects and limitations.
In gratitude,
George Walters

Marty was my mentor. I respected him in every way. He had lofty ideals and he stood by them. He once told me that lost causes were the only causes worth fighting for. Even though I lost track of Marty for the last few years I have every confidence that he believed that to the very end.
We have lost a true gentleman of a long gone era and I have lost the most important figure to guide me in my own teaching career.
May Jesus greet you Marty. Put a word in for me if you can.

Dear Walt Family,
The service today was an astounding and a tribute to the man, who could melt ice with his smile,

Marty was a great friend of Young Life and a true representative of the Christian life. I remember his love of flowers and his home in later years. Much love to Lois and family in the years ahead.

I will never forget Mr. Walt. He was tough, but only because he knew how much potential we had. Rest In Peace, sir.

Dear Lois and Family ~
God made Marty so unique: loving, warm, funny, entertaining, and full of knowledge. He was adored by many. My special memories of him focus on the time Kent and Linda were in Nairobi and we met monthly to pray at the North's home. I'm so glad that he loved Jesus and showed us how how to do that, too. He made such a difference in Young Life for so many, many kids!
Rejoicing for him and praying for your peace and comfort!

Mr. Walt was my seventh grade teacher in 1968-69. I respected him greatly and will always remember his firm but fair style of teaching. I remember one time our class discussed the death penalty and I think it may have been the first time I encountered an adult (Mr. Walt) really hearing us and our opinions without any condemnation. It showed me that he really cared and treated us with respect, allowing us to process through honest discussion. When I would run into him in town, it was so great to see him. Truly a wonderful man - looking forward to seeing him in Heaven and hearing his charming southern "hello".

Mr. Walt was an amazing history teacher. I learned more in his class compared to my other classes. He was strict but fair. I had the greatest respect for him. He was able to get middle school kids to learn geography and history. My favorite line from him was if one of us talked during his class he would say,"Y'all come see me for lunch, ya hear?" We spent many a day having lunch with him. He was amazing.

Mr. Walt was my teacher from '77 - '79. He was a wealth of knowledge and a great teacher. He helped with our 8th grade banquet and made the chicken dinner for that banquet. He also took us to the King Tut Exhibit in Seattle. My mom taught with him and liked him very much. He touched many lives and will be missed.

Mr. Walt was my seventh grade teacher at Mulino Elementary. I have so many memories of him...he was the very first "Southern Man" I'd ever known. He reminded me of Andy Griffith. I always thought that he, too, was from North Carolina.
And to his precious family, please know that I share your sadness with his passing. I will always remember him with fondness.

I worked with Marty for year, and he was my daughters teacher. He would stay after school and work with her, and he helped her so much. Marty was a nice Southern Gentelman that was loved by many & will be sincerely missed. With Love & Sympathy, Connie Mae Riggs

Marty and Lois meant so much to me during my growing up years. My favorite memories of Marty was sitting next to him at Central Bible church, singing hymns and listening to Dr. Mitchell. Oh how Marty loved to sing! Look forward to doing that again in Glory!

I remember Marty most from the time he came along hunting with us. He appreciated so much just being there. I think he liked sitting by the stove and reading the most. I know you are very happy right now.
