Richard Lepeska Obituary

Cayce - RICHARD K. LEPESKA, SR., 67, of Cayce, MS, died Sunday, July 9 at his home. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Piperton Baptist Church where he was a member. Services will be 10 a.m., Thursday at the church, with burial in New Salem Cemetery in Cayce. Mr. Lepeska, the husband for 47 years of Martha F. Lepeska, also leaves a daughter, Toni Lepeska of Barton, MS; and a son, Richard Lepeska, Jr. of Port St. Lucie, FL; a brother, Karl Lepeska of Milford, CT, and numerous beloved relatives, in-laws and friends. Mr. Lepeska grew up in Milford, CT where as a youth, he lettered in bowling and played saxophone with “The Seven Jacks”. Driven by a love of aircraft, he enlisted in the Air Force immediately after graduating from Milford High School. He was stationed in a variety of places, including Japan, and during his service, married. Good with numbers, possessing a sharp memory and being very personable, he loved his job as a mail carrier in the Halle Plantation area of Collierville. He liked everyone he met and so, had many friends. In 2000, he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. In 2003, he retired. He spent his days reading, keeping up with current events and spending time with family. He loved food and sharing recipes with others. A former choir member of Bellevue Baptist and Piperton Baptist, he continued a lifelong love of music. On the day of his death, he was in church singing, ‘Great Is Thy Faithfulness’ with the congregation. “Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth, Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide; Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow, Blessings all mine with ten thousand beside! Great is thy faithfulness!” The family request that memorials be directed to the Building Fund of The Piperton Baptist Church. Toni: Words cannot express anything that would be a comfort to you and your family during this difficult time. Just know my thoughts and prayers are with you during this sad time.

I could tell when you used to come interview Melvin Burgess, that there was something truly great and happy behind your personality. Sadly, it is only now that I learn who that "something great" was. God bless you and your family.
