Roy Thomas "Joe" Baxter, age 92, passed away on December 31, 2017. Born on October 1, 1925 in Akron, OH, Joe was raised in Lawrence County, TN. He was a member of the church of Christ, a proud Veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II, and he retired from MLGW. An accomplished singer and songleader, Joe's other interests included golf, bowling, and tending to his yard. Mr. Baxter was preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years, Dollie Estella Baxter; devoted daughter, Naomi Dee Baxter; parents, Roy Tipton and Mary Gazelle Baxter; and brother, Dean Gibbs Baxter. Joe is survived by his nephews, Joe Baxter and Timothy Baxter of Lawrenceburg, TN; as well as several cousins he considered close family. He will be especially missed by his church family and his friend, Susan Steckol. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 4, at the Forest Hill Church of Christ, where he was a longtime member, and funeral services will follow at 12:00 noon. Interment will be in Memorial Park Southwoods Cemetery, with military honors. Lasting memorials may be directed to the Memphis School of Preaching, the Forever Young Veteran's Association, or a charity of the donor's choice. What a pleasure it was to know Joe the final year of his life. To look at his scrap books and see all of the acquaintances that we had in common brought back many precious memories--David and Sandra Parker-Jones

Mr. Joe Baxter took me under his wing in 1966 I was 19 years old. He was kind and considerate to me and helped me become the man am today. I was so sorry to hear about his passing and couldn't attend. We spent many years working together and playing golf. He will be truly missed. Rest In Peace Joe Your friends Tom Thorne
