Shirley changed my life forever, with her kindness, her encouragement, her willingness to share her gifts, and ... perhaps my favorite thing ... that little gleam in her eye that was just SO SHIRLEY. I have so many wonderful memories; Shirley showing me how to fix my choral arrangements, challenging me to take the extra step, encouraging me to continue on my personal path ... She allowed me to do some illustrations and the movement for one of her books, mentored me in Orff, cracked me up, shared her fabulous Peach Soup Recipe, and showed me how beautiful rhododendrons can be. I look forward to singing with her again one day, in God's Choir.

Terry and Stephen, my thoughts and prayers are with you. I wish I could be at your mom's memorial service today. I live in Jacksonville, FL now so that is not possible. I love you both. Your mom was a lovely woman.

Your mom meant so much to me as we grew up as preachers kids and our parents were good friends. I always respected her. Later in life, I reconnected with her in my profession as a PT. She left such a mark on this world. I imagine the heavenly chorus sounds a little better now. My prayers and thoughts are with you in these and the coming days. Love, Laura Comes Hartmann

Shirley was more than a friend and more than a mentor to me. She has always held the spot in my heart next to my own mother. She loved me and my children as if we were her own. Shirley completely shaped the teacher I became. My heart aches to sing, laugh, talk, do puzzles together and teach with her again. Stephen and Lane I am so sorry for your loss. Her beautiful spirit will live in my heart forever.

Shirley was a dear mentor and beloved friend and educator. She had a sharp wit and was just delightful. I'm privileged to have known her. The world is a little less lovely, but heaven is in for a wonderful ride!

Shirley was such a wonderful teacher and friend. She was my mentor teacher when I studied for my Teacher Apprentice Level for AOSA. The two weeks with her were weeks I shall always remember and cherish. Thoughts and prayers to her family and close friends. She will be sorely missed in the world of music education.
