Travis McFarlin Obituary

Travis McFarlin

Germantown - Travis McFarlin, Tennessee native and true family man, died peacefully yet unexpectedly on January 7, 2021 at the age of 69 in Germantown, Tennessee due to Covid-19 complications.

Travis is survived by his wife, Beth McFarlin; his brother, Gary McFarlin (and spouse Marie McFarlin); his two children, Seth McFarlin (and spouse Katie McFarlin) and Meredith Johanson (and spouse Steven Johanson); and his two grandchildren, Clay Travis and Emmie Kate McFarlin.

Travis was born in Nashville, Tennessee on October 25, 1951 to the late Audrey and Edward McFarlin. He served full enlistment in the Army National Guard from 1970-1976. He graduated from the University of Tennessee Martin and continued his education at the University of Tennessee Knoxville where he received his Masters Degree. Travis began his career in sales at Fram Autolite/Honeywell then later transitioned to Wilson Trucking. For the last thirteen years, Travis served on the sales team at Old Dominion Freight Line.

Travis met his wife, Beth, an elementary school teacher, in Nashville where he both figuratively and literally swept her off her feet with his dance moves, deep devotion, and positive take on life. On June 22, 1985, he married the love of his life, and they celebrated 35 joyful years of marriage. During his marriage he welcomed his two beautiful children, Seth and Meredith.

Travis was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He responded to many names: Dad, Papa T, Coach T, and Sweet Trav to name a few. While he played different roles in people's lives, he was always faithful and present for the ones he loved. Travis was an avid Tennessee Vols fan and enjoyed spending time around a bonfire with music playing and a bourbon in hand. He would unintentionally steal the spotlight on any dance floor, and both his wife and daughter agree that he was their favorite dance partner. Travis had a strong work ethic and rarely sat still; he found enjoyment in gardening (and supplying neighbors and colleagues with seasonal vegetables), yard work and other projects around the house, spending time in the Great Smoky Mountains, and making memories with his grandchildren. Friends of Travis would describe him as an incredible listener, the life of the party, and fiercely loyal. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity brothers, and all who knew him.

Travis leaves a legacy of hard work, patience, persistence, and love. He was a spiritual man with strong faith, and he knew and loved Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. In the same way that Travis brought joy and love to all those whose lives he touched, if you would like to honor Travis, we encourage you to donate to an organization that supports and brings joy to those in need. A memorial service celebrating Travis's life will be scheduled on a later date for safety reasons.
