WALTER R. ALMOND Jr.

Walter R. Almond, Jr., loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, went to be with his Lord peacefully on August 12, 2010 at Germantown Methodist Hospital. He leaves his faithful wife of 57 years, Pat Irvin Almond, two sons, and a daughter: Randy Almond (Beth); Alisa Neal, Dr. Greg Almond (Tina). His family was the love and joy of his life, including grandchildren Rebecca Almond, Taylor Almond, Emily Neal, Seth Almond, and Sarah Almond. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph and Belvia Almond, sisters, Nell Dunger and Ann Langston, brother Willis Almond. Their well-being was always uppermost in his thoughts. W. R. was Chairman of the Board and CEO of Bluff City Transfer and Storage Company, agent for Atlas Van Lines, where his character and opinions were respected by his peers. He was known for his common sense approach to life and business along with his sense of humor. He was member of the Board of Directors of Memphis and Shelby County Movers Association and Tennessee Movers Association. God and his church were of utmost importance to him. He was a member of Christian Heritage Church, where he worked faithfully approximately 60 years. He diligently served as a deacon, church secretary, treasurer, and building committee member, and in various other areas. His community service included board memberships of Whitehaven Jaycees, Whitehaven Optimist Club, and Poplar Grove Association. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, August 13, 2010, at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 14, 2010 at Memorial Park Funeral Home.
