Arlan Groves Obituary
Concord, NH — Mr. Arlan Groves of 85 years, passed on Labor Day, September 6, 2021, after a recent decline in his health at Pleasant View Nursing Home, here in Concord, NH.
He was born on November 20, 1935 to Arthur Groves and wife Liana. Arlan grew up in Concord, on the West Side, attended Concord High School, and played on the school's football team. After graduation, he joined the NH National Guard in 1957 until 1959. While in the Guard, Al earned a medal for expert marksmanship; and worked with communications equipment. The majority of his lifetime was spent being employed by the NH Hospital System until his retirement 38 years later.
He met and married Sarah King, and had five children: Theresa; Nancy; Peter; Richard and David. They divorced in 1974, and Al went on to marry Laura Fleury, someone he knew from his job. His next marriage was to to Katherine, 'Kathy', who seemed to make him the happiest, until her passing in 2009. His next marriage was to Eleanor Gudreau. She like volunteering as a teacher's assistant while in retirement. She passed in 2016.
Arlan 'Al' Groves enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating and camping. He kept several pets over his lifetime; sometimes preferring their company over people.
Much of his free time was consumed by watching sports. Seeing the Red Sox; or viewing NE Patriots games, where they faced opposing teams, like the Steelers or the Giants, filled his life.
He spent the remainder of his life in Contoocook, NH, with the assist of his son David; until his final days in PVC. He is predeceased by his by his younger brother Richard 'Dick' Groves who passer in 2005.
There will be no call hours of formal funeral held. Arlan's final wishes were to have his ashes buried, at the graveside with his mother. In lieu of flowers, you may send a donation to the NH Association for the Blind, 25 Walker Street, Concord, NH. 03301, (603) 224-4059. Arlan "a' was generally polite to talk to; and maybe too quiet. A man of few words; it is our hope he left this world in peace.
