Arthur Marquis Obituary

CENTER BARNSTEAD - Mr. Arthur Marquis Sr., 71, died Monday, May 6, 2013, at the Concord Hospital after a sudden illness. And in a final act of unselfishness, Mr. Marquis had chosen to be an organ donor.

Born and raised in Salem, Mass., Mr. Marquis was the son of Cecile (Demeule) Marquis of Beverly, Mass. and the late Arthur P. Marquis. After moving to New Hampshire, he and his wife lived in Northwood before becoming residents of Center Barnstead in 1990.

Early in his career, Mr. Marquis moved houses and then worked for Lebel Grove as a mason tender. He spent more that 25 years as a machinist with PK Lindsay in Deerfield and retired from the Gilford Elementary School in 2007.

Mr. Marquis was an avid hunter and a proud member of the NRA. He held a 3rd degree black belt in karate and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree.

He was the widower of Dianne (Pooler) Marquis, who died in 2008 and was also predeceased by a grandson, Brandon Marquis in 1993.

He is survived by two sons, Arthur Marquis Jr. and his wife Jennifer of Deerfield, and Joseph Marquis and his partner, Karyn of Barnstead; three daughters, Suzanne Jenness and her spouse Holly of Bristol, Linda Brasley and her husband Gerry of Epsom, and Deborah Marquis of Center Barnstead; grandchildren, Sheri Nason of Laconia, Ashley and Megan Marquis of Deerfield, and Steven and Tara Brasley of Epsom; two great-granddaughters; his fiancée, Alicia Lessard of Center Barnstead; siblings and their spouses, Richard Marquis and Marily of Deerfield, Cecile Robinson of Beverly, Mass., Pauline Marston and Bill of Northwood, and Jeannette Hamilton and Robert of Beverly, Mass.; and nieces and nephews.

Friends and relatives may call Friday, May 10, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Still Oaks Funeral & Memorial Home, 1217 Suncook Valley Highway, Epsom.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday, May 11, at 10:30 a.m., at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Pittsfield.

Burial will take place at a later date in the Riverview Cemetery, Barnstead.

For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

I knew Art while taking Karate...Always a helpful soul. I did a recent search - finding this obit. With great sadness to learn of his passing I've thought frequently of some of my friends from the past days in the dojo he was always a favorite.
