Cedric Dustin Obituary

Cedric Dustin Jr.

Bow, NH — Cedric H (Dusty) Dustin Jr., age 96 and the Boston Post Cane holder for Bow, NH passed away on May 17, 2022 at Epsom Healthcare Center after a brief period of declining health.

Dusty was born on August 19, 1925 to Cedric H Dustin and Bertha (Robinson) Dustin in Exeter, NH. He was a United States Army Air Force veteran and served in World War II. Following his discharge, he attended Northeastern University and graduated in 1951. That year was monumental for Dusty. On April 8 he married Elinor M Shannon of Woburn, MA with whom he share 63 years of marriage until her passing in 2014. It was also the year he moved to Bow, NH and began his employment with Concord Natural Gas, where he rose to President and General Manager over the years. Later, he worked for Energy North Inc. Retiring in 1988 as Senior Vice President. His involvement in the gas industry extended beyond these two companies, serving as President of New England Association in 1971-1972 and was a director for 24 years.

Dusty was involved in many organizations in Bow, NH and Concord, NH. He was always working to improve these communities. In Bow, NH he served in town government as: Trustee of Trust Funds, worked on the Budget Committee, on the Water and Sewer Commission, and on the Conservation Commission. Outside of town government, he was involved in Boy Scouts and the Bow Men's Club. In Concord, NH he was president and director at Concord Community Development Corp. for 18 years, and served on the Advisory Board for NHTI for over 20 years. One of his proudest moments was serving as Vice President of the Concord Bicentennial Committee in 1965, at which time he grew his only beard as a member of the "Brothers of the Bush". As a result of his many years of work benefitting Concord, NH; he was named Concord Citizen of the Year in 1995.

Dusty enjoyed spending time with friends and family, especially holiday meals with the Patrick family; a tradition that has continued for over 60 years. He had a passion for antique cars, especially Packards, and could spend hours discussing automobiles. He loved the outdoors. Summer at the lake in Moultonborough, snowmobiling in the winters, which he continued doing into his nineties. This love of the outdoors is what led to his involvement in conservation and preservation activities, the last few years in preserving Concord's gas holder.

I first met Dusty at a Bow Snowmobiling meeting and enjoyed all of his adventures of Snowmobiling. A love of riding he enjoyed and was always helpful on the machines that had problems.
I'll ride the white snow and think of Dusty.

I got to know Dusty when I replaced him as the Trail Administrator for the Bow Pioneers Snowmobile Club back in the early 90s. I was a new resident to Bow at the time and am forever grateful that Dusty was one of the first persons that I met and came to know. He was so nice to me and had a wealth of knowledge that he freely shared. I'm saddened by his passing and fortunate to have known him. Godspeed, Dusty!

So sorry to hear about Dusty´s passing. He was a truly nice person. I enjoyed snowmobiling with him and seeing him out in the woods snowmobiling and grooming the trails.

I will always remember Dusty, my 2nd cousin, and have missed his correspondence since his decline. We exchanged Christmas cards each year and he always included a lovely, long handwritten letter offering family history which I will treasure. Rest well Dusty, you led a really great, long and active life.
