Daniel Lennon Obituary
Hopkinton, NH — Daniel C. Lennon, Sr. of Hopkinton, NH died on July 22, 2022 from complications related to Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Born in Cambridge, MA, he was the son of Mary Doran Lennon and John H. Lennon, Sr. Dan was raised in Lynn, MA.
He began singing as a young boy and sang professionally in various bands such as the Whirlwinds, Straight Water Blues Band; with his friends, The Four Rascals, and with his brother and cousins in the Lendows. He produced a CD titled, "First Time Out" and co-created a second CD titled, "50 Years Still Rockin "with the Lendows.
He was a truly genuine person with a soulful, bluesy voice. His favorite poem was Desiderata.
Dan was most grateful for the fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous where he learned to live in sobriety as a man of dignity and compassion for the past 47 years. He would say this is where he learned how to be genuine in relationships and how to create a life well lived.
He earned a Master's in Counseling & Community Psychology and was a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and a Master Licensed Alcohol & Drug Abuse Counselor as he wanted to help others receive the gift of freedom from the illness of addiction. He was proud to be the first member of his family to earn a Masters degree and the first to achieve sustained sobriety.
Dan worked at Hampstead Hospital, Lakeshore Hospital, Seaborne Hospital, NH DOC and Second Start. He also held a part-time private practice until his retirement, with his wife, Donna.
Dan was predeceased by his parents; sisters Janet, Pauline, Edna, Barbara, Beverly, Mary and brother John. He is survived by Donna, his wife of 32 years; sons Daniel (Susan) Lennon and James (Laurie) Lennon; step-sons Kenneth (Mari) Ramsdell and Eddie (Heidi) Ramsdell and step-daughters Bobbie-Jo DeFillipo and Carol Ambrosino.
He leaves a brother Thomas Lennon, a sister Anne Gill and her husband Thomas Gill, a friend and golf buddy of Dan's, and a sister Shirley Nugent; 7 grandchildren; cousin Paul McCormack (Carla), several nieces, nephews, Donna's family members and his beloved dog, Zeva.
The family extends gratitude to the treatment team at NH Oncology & Hematology under the direction, care and guidance of Fred Briccetti, MD and to Dr. Matthew Sullivan at Dartmouth Hospital in Lebanon, NH for his expertise in treating leukemia and for his compassion.
Thank you for the love, assistance and comfort of our dear friends who made meals, gave rides to treatment and shared tears, laughter and support throughout this transition. As Dan would often say, "Be good to yourself always, all ways."
A memorial service for family and friends will take place at a future date.

Hi Dan, it's Lisa. That's how our conversations always started on the phone when Donna wasn't home. Usually you'd say 'ya want me to tell her to call you?' except twice, in all the years I was friends with Donna, you heard a crack in my voice or sensed something and said 'what's going on, everything okay?' Those two times you listened to me, and my crying, and my story. And both times you said something to me in reply that I've never forgotten. In the first, you gave me confidence to stand firm and be who I was. And in the second, you affirmed that I needed to be strong, and to believe in myself, and follow through. There is no doubt in my mind, Dan, HP put you on the phone intentionally. I'll remind Donna about those two stories when we get together. I have to say, I feel really sad I haven't seen you both in so long.
Donna, it's been so difficult being down here in Virginia when I want to be there for you, my dear friend. I am with you, though, in my thoughts, please know that- and please tell the families I am so sorry, so sad for them, as well. With much love- Lisa

Dan,
It fills my heart with great sadness that you have been called to a higher purpose. Where once I had a mentor in my early career and later a friend I and many others have a beautiful Angel. The choirs of Heaven just received a new lead man. I am so grateful you weee an early influence on my career. When I doubted myself as a counselor in the challenging environment of the prison you quoted Ehrmann saying, " Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others..." You also said never doubt the impact a quiet or boisterous moment of kindness might have on someone. Remember, you´re sn Irish girl." In that deep, resonant voice of yours with piercing eyes that I swear saw to the soul. You helped me believe in myself in those early, vulnerable days in a young person´s career. I remember your fun shenanigans at work and when having us over for snacks and fun at your house I loved your playfulness with Donna which reminded me of my folks., My niece as so excited to see your show when you played in Derry and never forgot how you made a special point to come down and say hello. I was so excited to see you at the Capitol Theatre enjoying the show that we were. Thank you for words of wisdom, laughs, hugs, your knowledge and deep respect for life and everything it means and has to offer. "It's you, it's you must go and I must bide."

How can I describe how much I miss my brother Dan. We cried together, laughed , and mostly loved each othe for 65 years. I will miss the many songs we sang together with bra Tom and bra Ray. I will miss your generosity to us. I will miss your warmth and smile that you and bra Tom showed me. You showed me what having a brother meant. Thank you God for giving me both. Joann and i feel so sad for you. You had one of the best . When he came to see us ,we could not have a more joyfull visit . Tommy and uncle Paul were a joy we will always cherish. This memory.
