David Hazen Obituary

David W. Hazen

Canterbury, NH - After a life well lived, David W. Hazen, 77, passed away peacefully at home on October 29th. His partner of 30 years, Linda Stevens, and family were at his side.

David grew up in Penacook. He graduated from Penacook High School, attended Penn State and graduated from New England College. David established the company, Shirts Happen, and owned Sign-a-Rama of Concord, 2001 - 2011.

David's love of sports led to providing Final Four and Championship shirts for NHIAA tournaments throughout the state for over 25 years. He also enjoyed covering high school Theater Festivals in all six New England states and many middle school athletic events, working with Linda throughout.

David was very proud of his family - his children, Ben and Molly, their spouses, Michelle and Mickey, and his grandchildren, Anna, Mia and Nick Smith. David was also grateful to be able to include Linda's son, Brian Stevens, as an integral member of his family.

Following David's example of his own athleticism in high school, his grandchildren gave him many hours of enjoyment as they are outstanding athletes in multiple sports in Portsmouth schools. David believed strongly in the value of sports benefitting both the participants and their fans.

David was an avid golfer, enjoyed traveling and playing different courses around the country with Linda and Ben. A highlight was a trip to Scotland for David's 70th birthday gifted by Ben. They were fortunate to get on the Old Course of St. Andrews as well as seven other courses.

Another memorable event in David's story was his planning and carrying out a reunion for everyone who ever graduated from Penacook High School. "Reunion 93" was enjoyed by a great many participants.

All who knew him have memories of this hard working, fun, kind, loving man. We ask that you say goodbye in your own special way, as there will be no calling hours or funeral.

Lina I'm sorry for your loss. As you know I had known Dave since I was a kid and I'm deeply saddened to hear of Dave's passing, I always enjoyed my random conversations with the both of you at games and where ever we would happen to run into each other.
Stay strong

David and Linda hired me to work for them at Sign-A-Rama when they opened. David was very patient with teaching me the ropes of weeding and applying signs. I feel very fortunate that I had got to know him and work for him. I remember the season that he printed the shirts for my grandchildren's Pittsfield basketball team. He was adamant about having all the names spelled correctly.
Also how happy and energetic he became getting ready for the Final Four, and Championship shirts for NHIAA.
I remember him of a very giving man. I was blessed to know David and Linda as well. Linda I will remember you in my prayers. God be with you.
