Doris Balcom

ALLENSTOWN – Doris Balcom was diagnosed in May 2013 with pancreatic cancer. She succumbed due to complications Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2014, at her home with family by her side.

Doris was born and raised in Manchester, the daughter of George Therrien and Jean (Villeneuve) (Therrien) MacKenzie, who both predeceased her. Her father in 1951 and her mother in 2009. She was a graduate of Manchester Central High School.

Doris spent 36 years in the supermarket retail service industry with the last 25 working for Associated Grocers in Pembroke.

Doris was a loving wife, devoted mother, and giving grandmother. She had a love of family, a love for serving others, and a love of friendship as evidenced in her volunteer work and in her special ties to the Breast Cancer Fundraising program in support of her daughter Karen and her sister Jeanne.

Her devotion to those she loved and cared for will forever reflect on the way we continue to live our lives – with sincerity, compassion and thoughtfulness.

She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Richard Balcom of Allenstown; her three daughters and their husbands, Karen Rego and Richard of Mansfield, Mass., Cynthia Callahan and Craig of Northborough, Mass. and Stephanie Dickey and Jon of Barnstead; her beloved grandchildren, Rachel, Tim, Katie, Kyle, Hayliegh and Spencer; her sister, Jeanne Statsz of Ludlow, Vt.; her brother, Norman Therrien and his wife, Susan of Sanbornton; and nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are Friday, Dec. 19, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Petit Funeral Home, 167 Main St. in Pembroke.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Dec. 20, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church in Allenstown.
