Emmanuel Deharo Obituary

Emmanuel J. Deharo

Allenstown, NH - Emmanuel J. Deharo, 76, of Allenstown, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, March 2, 2023 at his residence.

He was born on January 24, 1947 in Mostaganem, Algeria, son of the late Manuel Deharo and Rita (Jacques) Deharo Cole.

Manny as he was known to his friends and family loved music and as a youngster, he enjoyed playing the accordion as well as the harmonica. Growing up in Beverly, he attended the local schools, graduating from Beverly Trade School in 1964. After graduation Manny entered the US Navy of September 1964 at the height of the Vietnam War, serving his country proudly as a Radioman (RM/E-5) on the USS Montrose (APA-212) and was honorably discharged in January 1968. After returning home from the war Manny joined a local band and was their lead singer. Recently, he volunteered at a local gas station in Allenstown, where he stocked shelves and coolers while warmly greeting the patrons who came into the store. Each morning he would meet fellow Vietnam veterans at the local Dunkin Donuts for coffee and fellowship. Manny was instrumental in helping his son achieve the rank of Eagle Scout in 1989 as well as seeing him enlist in the US Navy as the 3rd generation. He was proud of the work his son did and to call him a brother Veteran.

Besides his parents, Manny was predeceased by his long-time companion, Sylvia Spolsino who passed in 2020, as well two brothers, Arthur and Jean Paul.

He is survived by his son and only child, Jeffrey Deharo and his wife Tracy of Billerica, three grandchildren, Colby, Hunter and Dalton, brother Roger and his wife Carol of Nashua, sisters, Rita and her husband Alan of Port St. Lucie, FL, Susan Ricci of Salem, MA, aunts, Rose of Peabody, MA and Cecile of Haverhill, MA as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In accordance with Manny's wishes, he will be cremated and a celebration of his life will be held at his family's convenience. Burial will take place at Beverly Cemetery in Beverly, MA. The Roan Family Funeral Home in Pembroke is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Manny's memory to the Vietnam Veterans of America at www.vva.org or to the Prostate Cancer Foundation at www.curepcf.org To share a memory or offer a condolence please visit www.roanfamilyfuneral.com

Manny was a first cousin once removed as it seems to be called. Although we called his mother, Auntie Rita, she was actually our first cousin. Since I was closer in age to Jean Paul and Arthur, I knew them better. I did not know that Manny was a Vietnam Vet, just a year older than I, or that he sang in a band. I recall that Manny was quiet and as good looking as his father. I didn´t even know that he had been born in Algeria, a country I had hoped to visit. I got as close as Morocco. My sympathies to Rita, Susan, Roger and Manny´s son and grandchildren. May he rest in peace. I knew Manny from a distance as a kind presence. Ray LaBonte, at the time I was known as Curly.
