Frances Fagan Obituary

Frances "Fran" Fagan passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2018 at the Parlin Hospice Residence in Wayland, Mass. The Parlin House staff and devoted volunteers provided for her every comfort and wellbeing with interest and concern. Fran and her family spent her final days in this deeply caring and healing place.

Fran was born in Arlington, Mass., on Aug. 12, 1932 to Thomas W. and Matilda (Morrison) MacDonald and raised in Arlington, Mass., with her younger brothers the late Thomas ("Sonny") and the late John (Mac) MacDonald. Fran married Al Fagan in 1954 and as an Air Force couple they traversed the Alaskan Highway (all gravel roads) in a 1942 Buick. They lived for four years in a Quonset Hut at Eielson Air Force Base. They retired from military life in 1971 and settled in New Hampshire.

Fran worked as a Court Transcriber, School Bus Driver, for Manpower, Rich Plan of Northern New England, New England College, McSwiney Law Firm., The Capital Bank, and Concord Hospital. Most meaningful to her were the 31 years she worked for Weight Watchers of New England. She was the first to staff open hours in the Bedford Weight Watchers Center. After supporting hundreds of people on their weight loss journey she retired at 79 years old. Al, her late husband always said, "Fran sees the world through rose colored glasses", and… gave everyone she met a peek through her lens.

Fran was widowed in 1997 and moved to Elmbrook Village in Hopkinton. She adored living in this quiet, active, caring community. "I couldn't have picked a better place to live, we all look out for each other." During her 17 years there she walked three miles a day, made many dear friends, and adopted her precious Pomeranian 'Bailey'.

Fran is survived by her daughter Deb and her husband Michael Druar, daughter Deanna Fagan, grandchildren Nick, Jillian and Kadyrose Druar, sister-in-law Eileen Fagan, nieces and nephew, and her precious dog Bailey.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, Feb. 23, 2018, from 3 to 5 p.m. A Celebration of Life service will follow officiated by Brother Charles. Interment will be private and held on a later date at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the International Waldenstrom's Macroglobulinemia Foundation at iwmf.com/give. Arrangements are entrusted to the Bennett Funeral Home of Concord at BennettFuneral.com.

Fran was the light of our Curves girls breakfast that met monthly for years. She had the best stories of her family, her travels, her dog, Bailey and her love of her Elm brook home. High heels forever!

What can I say about the "other mom" in my life? She was loving, kind, over protective and always meant well. Thank you Deb and Deanna for sharing your mom with me. She will long be in my memory and always in my heart. I think when she called me in January she knew it would be our last call...I just wish I knew. I know she is at peace in her forever home with her loving husband, a man I truly admired. God bless you all, Deb, Mike, Deanna, Nicholas, Jillian and Katie Rose. Love, Cindi

Fran was an amazing lady, indeed. I met her through Weight Watchers and she was so upbeat and inspiring, always smiling and encouraging others. She definitely was a ray of sunshine.
