Gary Blake Obituary

Gary A. Blake

Center Conway, NH - Gary Blake (known by many as Blakey), of Center Conway and formerly of Loudon, died on Aug. 24 at the age of 71. He was surrounded with love from his family.

Gary was the son of Maurice (Bud) and Betty Blake of Concord. Some of his favorite memories were summers spent poolside with them and his family.

Gary graduated from Concord High School in 1973. After some time at UNH, he traveled west to work as a land surveyor. He fell in love with the serenity of Montana, fly fishing, the mountains, and the way of life.

Gary will be remembered for his love of the outdoors, sports (especially hockey and football), westerns, and his dogs. Those who know him remember he didn't go anywhere without Gus and later Caroline.

But above all, Gary's pride and joy was his two daughters, Hannah and Sarah. He loved supporting their endless array of endeavors. Gary challenged his daughters to grow and was never shy about sharing his advice.

Gary is survived by his daughters and their spouses; Hannah and Rachel Jernstrom of Madison, N.H. and Sarah and Miles Green of Portland, ME. He is also survived by his siblings and their spouses; Mike and Norma Blake, Bruce and Chere Blake, and Sharon and Doug Savoy. He was fiercely loyal to his family and countless close friends.

In lieu of flowers, his daughters would love to hear stories and see old pictures of Dad. Feel free to share them by emailing [email protected].

Dear Hannah & Sarah, your Dad worked for us back in the early 80s. In fact, the 2 of you performed (before me, personally!) some remarkable calisthenics back in those times. I was visiting your home in Loudon and the two of you voluteered to display your newfound abilities. Your Dad, Gary Blake was a faithful, skilled and always cheerful worker in the surveying 'craft'. His loss is not only yours but that of so many others that came to know him. Yes, we'll miss him but expect to gather together some day. Hank Amsden

Very saddened to hear of Gary’s passing. I knew Gary from working with him very often throughout the 1970s doing surveys for Amsden & Sons. I remember him as a truly awesome guy; always friendly, helpful, positive, thoughtful and wise. We spent many frigid cold days in the wilds of NH and ME getting through some tough places. He was one of those very rare breeds of “good guys.”

I can still picture Gary with that big "who me" grin after dropping the cake that miss Lesley had spent all morning baking when visiting Steve and Martha's house on Webster lake. Tina would have been devastated at the news.
