George Bastien Obituary

George F. Bastien

Warner, NH & Broad Brook, CT - George F. Bastien, 84, of Warner, NH, formerly of Broad Brook, CT, loving husband of over 60 years of the late Virginia (Sherlock) Bastien passed away, peacefully, on Monday, March 31, 2025. George was born on May 28, 1940, in Rocky Hill, CT, son of the late Henry Bastien and Margaret (Shlichting) Dungan.

He was a graduate of East Windsor High School and earned his bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, MA. George was employed for over 30 years with Bechtel Power Company, a position he truly enjoyed, and he maintained many friendships over the years with his co-workers. In his positions in the Fossil Fuel Sector of Bechtel Power Co., George traveled throughout the US and internationally, including to England, China, and Pakistan, and also living in Egypt on two separate occasions.

After graduating from WPI in 1962, work and life brought him to Connecticut, Tennessee, and Maryland, before moving in to a farm outside of Fairfield, PA. He and Virginia raised a family in those green rolling hills of Pennsylvania and later retired to the snowy white mountains of Vermont, where they enjoyed a pastoral life for 20 years.

George lived the remaining years of his life in a small rural NH village where he spent time diligently restoring his vintage Ford truck or puttering around his yard, gardening; two of his favorite activities. He could be seen around town on his daily walks with his faithful Husky/Australian Shepard cross, Maya, and chatting with his neighbors. He helped his neighbors, cutting down a broken tree or mowing heavy brush.

George is survived by his daughter, Margaret "Peg" Bastien, and her husband, John Dowling, of Warner, NH and his son, Andrew Bastien, of San Jose, CA. In addition to his wife and parents, George was predeceased by his son, Peter Bastien.
