Gertrud Fowke Obituary

Gertrud A. Fowke

Deerfield, NH — Gertrud "Trudy" Fowke, 95, of Deerfield NH, passed away peacefully in Hospice at the Merrimack County Nursing Home on May 26th, 2021.

The daughter of Max and Anna Paulix, Trudy, was born in Hamburg, Germany on May 15, 1926. She came to the United States in September of 1952 with her husband Thomas Lawson Fowke, whom she met there while he was serving in the United States Army.

During most of their life together they resided in Deerfield NH, the majority of which was spent in the house "up on the hill." Trudy was an avid and gifted gardener, the fruits of her labor often causing both neighbors and strangers alike to stop when they saw her extensive flower gardens. She and her husband loved both playing tennis and attending professional tennis tournaments. They enjoyed long vacations in the White Mountains and traveled to many countryside attractions. Trudy's most avid passion was spending time with her grandsons, taking great joy in being a very special "Mimi."

One of the proudest moments in Trudy's life occurred when she was finally able to become a United States Citizen in 1956. Gertrud had a great love for the United States of America and was often quite vocal in her opinions about the United States Constitution and the freedoms and opportunities she believed it represents.

She was predeceased by her husband Thomas L. Fowke, Originally from Skowhegan Maine and her first son, Thomas E. Fowke of Deltona, Florida. She is survived by her daughter Diane, of Concord, NH, her son Mark and his wife Barbara, of Auburn, NH as well as 2 grandsons: Jamison and his partner, Heather Hodgin, both of East Dorset, Vermont, and Thomas L Fowke, of Campton, NH. Trudy had one great-grandson, Lawson Thomas Fowke, whom she never got to meet due to Covid restrictions. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Eldena Steinberger of Hallowell, ME and a niece, Susan Mello and husband George of Belmont, NH.

Trudy's family offers heartfelt thanks to the entire staff of Merrimack County Nursing Home and Gerrish Manor Assisted Living for their kindness, care and compassion during her time spent at those facilities.

At Trudy's request, there will be no calling hours or formal service.

Diane, Mark and all;
I'm sorry to hear of your Mom's passing. I never had the pleasure, but I'm sure she was the best. I can see it in her eyes. May it comfort you to know that she is at peace and reunited with your dad and Tom, all justly proud to have had suck a wonderful family.

A wonderful woman, she was always kind to me. I hadn't seen her for years but I remember she invited me to her house to give me advice after my first son was born. I am happy to know she lived a long life filled with family.
