Jan was part-ambassador, part-therapist, part-housing coordinator, part-career counselor, part-academic advisor, part-matchmaker and all heart. She was the epicenter (literally and figuratively) of the law center. Without Jan, my experience at FPLC would have only been academic. I´m so sad to see this and to have missed her services after her passing in October.
PS: I watched her funeral Mass on-line and Jeff Kobulnick´s stories hit home. May her memory be a blessing.

Jan is an angel! As a Nigerian in Concord, NH for the first time in the fall of 2011, her smile at the reception desk lit up my world and provided much needed warmth and comfort. I truly appreciated her presence so that, as commencement speaker, I thanked her specially in my speech.
Jan would always be a rare gem and sorely missed.

As a former employee of UNH School of Law starting back in 2006 and retiring in 2021, I, too, loved Jan and her comforting ways. She was the face of the law school and such a cherished member of the law school community. Every day, I would walk by Jan's desk on my way to the library and be greeted with a smile and a kind word. You were such a motherly presence in our every days lives -- especially those days when we needed it more than you would have ever known.
You were always reliably present to greet us. I will always be grateful for your support of all who walked through the door looking for guidance and support. Thank you for being you, Jan. Such a sweet, witty, truthful, kind second mother. Peace to you and my condolences to your family.

I will always remember our conversations over the phone, it was a pleasure to reminisce and exchange our thoughts and thinking of our canadian cousins. As a devout Christian and caring towards others, you will merit a good place in heaven.

I agree with every remembrance already shared. I was always surprised when I would visit FPLC years after graduation and Jan didn´t hesitate in getting me by name. I was pregnant as a 1L and Jan was always there to support me as a student and talk me off the occasional emotional mom-to-be ledge.
There is no doubt that Jan is in the loving arms of the Lord while also remaining in our hearts. Gone but never forgotten.

Dear Jan, you were the first person I spoke to when I reached Franklin Pierce on August 1998. I was a foreigner and my English was faulty. Your kindness and your light were so bright. You made me feel at home that day and every day. Always a smile, always joyful, always caring. We were so lucky to have met you. You were the embodiment of generosity, and lived, without doubt, the truth of the Gospel. May the light of the Lord forever shine upon your soul. And may your dear family be consoled at this time of grief. Maria and Kanishka, FPLC 99

Jan truly was the heart and joy of our community at FPLC. I have such fond memories of her, especially how she made every day special for me and my kids when I will visit the building, with them. Back then, Nicolas was just 4 years old, and Belen was 2. Without fail, the very first thing Jan would do when we arrived was to shower my children with all kinds of sweet treats. It´s a gesture they still remember fondly, even today. Jan's warmth and kindness have left a lasting impression on all of us. She will forever remain in our hearts.

My condolences to Jan's family. Jan was the heart of the law school during my years there. She was always willing to listen, had a kind word for everyone, and knew everything and everyone at the law school. Every student knew that if you needed anything, you should go and see Jan. Thank you Jan!

I joined FPLC as an MIP student in August 1997. As a foreign exchange student, it was my first time in the US. I entered the doors filled with the anxiety not uncommon to anyone in a 'foreign' situation. From day one, Jan had the most welcoming smile, and always ready to point me (and others) in the right direction. She made one feel special, focusing on you like you are the only one who mattered at that moment. And not for one day, or one week. All the time! She smiled. She remembered conversation. She asked how I was doing. She brought a little bit of home to the school. I am saddened by her passing. But if there was ever a person who impacted others positively, and so effortlessly, Jan is that person. Rest in peace, Jan.

My deepest condolences to Jan´s family. Jan brightened the days of everyone around her, especially during those stressful finals. At a recent FPLC reunion, her name came up often, with everyone remembering her as the face and spirit of the school. Even after 30 years, Jan remains one of the most cherished memories from my time there. Her presence touched so many, and her memory will live on.

May, 1989 graduation picture. Jan was the best person at Franklin Pierce Law Center. More than an employee, she was a friend and confidant. She had a mom's wisdom. I am so lucky to have known her. I'm sorry for everyone's loss.

These words define one awesome individual - Jan Neuman
Jan - you gave the school a touch of home. You were always at your desk greeting us with a smile; taking the time to have a conversation with us; to ask about our families, our aspirations after law school and to see how we were doing. And this occurred from our very first days as overwhelmed students, To our last days at the Law School as confident graduates, and To our post-law school days as practicing attorneys. In all phases, you personally invested in each of us and always showed that you cared, truly becoming an integral part of our law school education and our lives during and after law school.
You bound us together, despite varying personalities, varying beliefs, and varying backgrounds. You helped connect each of us and You were the refreshing constant in our often hectic and stressful law school days. You were our Mom away from home. You are what we remember most about law school. Personally, I remember trying to imitate you in Jive for a FPLC Beauty Pageant. I failed miserably, which is a testament to your unique and distinct character.
Jan - you are our treasured friend who personally impacted each of us more than any law school exam could have. You instilled in each of us the importance of compassion, empathy and understanding. You shaped who wanted to be as a lawyer and as a person. I am sure that there is not a conversation about the Law Center that does not somehow connect back to You, Jan. Every institution has that one, special person who is reliable, who is trustworthy, who is the go-to, who touches the lives of the students who walk its hallways and leaves them with an indelible mark, WHO IS THE CENTER. Jan - you are that one special person. You are the heart and soul of UNH Franklin Pierce School of Law..... and for that, we are full of gratitude to you and incredibly proud to honor you this evening for a most deserving recognition. Thank you Jan.

Jan shined her light at the law school for many years. Her spirit of love, peace, joy, and kindness remains with all of us. Jan's grace and humility is a legacy she left for our students to emulate in their careers. I am blessed beyond all measure to call her my friend.

I began working at the law school in 2010 and loved talking with Jan at the front desk. She kept a binder of student photos going back many, many years. She tried very hard to memorize every student's name, which is truly remarkable. Even though Jan retired over a decade ago, we speak of her regularly and remember her often. She was a truly special person.

Everyone who entered the law center was greeted by a beautiful smile and a kind word. Jan was the perfect person to fill the receptionist position.
Any time I returned to the law center, I made it a point to stop by to say hello. She made her job look easy.

Jan was the initial Face and Voice of the Law School for 25 years. She was the familiar, friendly voice that so many students, faculty, staff and alumni looked forward to connecting with each time they visited or called. Peaceful Strength.
