Jessie Levine Obituary

Jessie W. Levine

New London, NH — Jessie Wenonah Levine, age 50, passed away on June 26, 2021 in New London, NH, from complications of ALS.

Born in Hopkinton, NH, Jessie graduated from Hopkinton High School and Dartmouth College, and earned a master's in public administration from UNH.

Jessie returned to NH, from Boston, in 2000 to become town administrator of New London, where she served for nearly 11 years. In 2015, the New London Board of Selectmen dedicated the town's roundabout in Jessie's name, an honor that touched her deeply.

Jessie served as assistant town manager for Hanover and town manager for Bedford before becoming the county manager for Sullivan County, where she worked until retiring due to her illness. While with Sullivan County she was recognized as NH county manager of the year in 2016.

Jessie loved interacting with legislators, governing boards, coworkers, and other public managers, who were special to her. She was a 15-year member of the International City / County Management Association, past president of the Municipal Management Association of NH, and she actively represented her communities in the NH Municipal Association. She was past president of the New London Rotary Club and a member of the Hanover and Newport Rotary Clubs. She was a graduate and past board member of Leadership NH and recipient of the Raymond S. Burton Public Service Award.

Jessie enjoyed getting together with her friends from all parts of her life and stayed particularly close with those from Hopkinton, Dartmouth, Springfield, and New London. She treasured road trips, ice cream runs, book clubs, trivia nights, movie nights, golfing, skiing, spa trips, home pedicures, hikes to Cole Pond, and a good IPA on someone's deck. She loved peaches, the Boston Celtics, competing in 5ks and trail runs, and snowshoeing in the woods behind her house, especially with her late dog, Elle.

Jessie leaves her parents, father David and stepmother Rozlyn Levine, and mother Carolyn Parrott and stepfather Brad Dorsey, all of Hopkinton. Jessie adored her five sisters -- Mayday (Chuy) Levine Mata of Tucson, AZ, Emma Gardner of Brattleboro, VT, Sarah (Rick) Goddard of Huntingtown, MD, Galen (Jared) Kramer of Seattle, WA, and Ann (Hy) Kisin of Toledo, OH -- and her nieces and nephews, Sammy Mata, Juliana, Ryan and Natalie Goddard, and Nora, Maisie and Tallulah Kramer. Jessie also leaves numerous cousins, aunts, and uncles, and lifelong friends Mishie and Rocky Owen, of Brooklyn, NY.

Words cannot express how thankful she was for the friends and caregivers who helped her enjoy the last three years in New London, with special thanks to Tiffany Sykes, ARPN, of Life Long Care of New London, and to Bayada Hospice.

There will be a celebration of life service at Musterfield Farm in Sutton, NH, on Sunday, July 18, 2021, at 11:00 AM, followed by a picnic with live music (due to Covid, food will not be provided. Please pack in and pack out and BYOB).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to YMCA Camp Coniston, PO Box 185, Grantham, NH 03753 (www.coniston.org) or to the New London Firefighters Association, 375 Main Street, New London 03257, or to Compassionate Care ALS, PO Box 1052, West Falmouth, MA 02574 (ccals.org).
