Joan Joos Obituary

Joan H. Joos

Hopkinton, NH - Joan (Hodge) Joos passed away peacefully in her sleep on Christmas Eve day, 2024, with her husband and two daughters nearby. She was 87. Joan was born on March 26, 1937, in New Haven, CT to Hubert C. and Grace (Tinker) Hodge.

Joan grew up in West Haven, CT and attended West Haven High School. She met her future husband Richard Clifford (Dick) Joos at that high school. She loved to tell the story about how they met. Back in those days (1951) students sat alphabetically. Hodge was next to Joos.

Joan earned her associate degree in secretarial at Colby Junior College (now Colby Sawyer College) in New London, NH. Dick would take the train and/or hitchhike to visit Joan. They fell in love with NH and after getting married in 1958 and after Dick's graduation in 1959 they would settle in NH. In 1960 they bought their home in Hopkinton, where they have lived ever since.

After raising their three children Susan, Barbara and Richard Charles, Joan worked as a secretary most notably at Pats Peak Ski Area and New England College. She was administrative assistant to the vice president at NEC.

Joan was pre-deceased by her parents and her three siblings Dian (Rice), Suzanne (Birks) and Hubert Jr. (Sandy). Joan is survived by her husband and children, nieces and nephews and many friends.

There will be no services at this time. The Cremation Society of NH has made her final arrangements. The family would like to give special thanks to Family Tree of Hopkinton, the Granite VNA and Rest Assured Home Health Care Services.
