John Gorham Obituary

John Philip Gorham

Salisbury Beach, MA - John Philip Gorham, 75, died Oct. 12, 2025, at Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford, Mass.

Mr. Gorham was born April 13, 1950, in Boston. He spent his early years on the family farm in Hopkinton, N.H., and later moved to Concord, where he graduated from Concord High School in 1968. He earned a bachelor's degree in History at the University of New Hampshire (while in Air Force ROTC) and, after military service, he pursued a master's in Public Administration from Arizona State University.

He served in the U.S. Air Force, rising to the rank of First Lieutenant and working as a transportation officer at George AFB in Victorville, Calif. After his honorable discharge, he returned to New Hampshire and worked as an estimator for Capitol Plumbing & Heating Supply before later joining the U.S. Postal Service as a postal carrier.

Mr. Gorham was a private man - thoughtful, generous, proud of his country and his family. A lifelong Boston sports fan, he enjoyed dancing (especially to '70s disco), softball, golf, bowling, kayaking, birdwatching, and helping tend the shores of Salisbury Beach. He marched annually in the Veterans Day Parade in Nashua in honor of his uncle, a WWII veteran. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose and the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his son, James Patrick Gorham, and daughter-in-law, Rebecca, of East Greenwich, R.I.; grandchildren Patrick and Hannah; his partner and caregiver, Barbara Mills of Fitchburg, Mass.; and sisters Jane Person of Batavia, Iowa, and Betsy Gowdy of Winchester, Va. He was predeceased by his father, Joseph J. La Fauci; his mother, Lillian M. (Harris) Healy; and his stepfather, John P. Healy.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at South Congregational Church in Concord, N.H., at a date to be announced. Interment will follow at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, with a reception at Alan's Restaurant, Boscawen. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hunter Seven Foundation, hunterseven.org.

Mr. Gorham will be remembered for his quiet dignity, his devoted love to family, and his deep loyalty to his faith and country.

When I built my first house, John was working at Capital Plumbing and was an enormous help with my furnace and plumbing installations. Discount materials and generous with suggestions.

John and I became friends on Hall Street in Concord around 1957. He loved to play baseball in an empty lot with the "Hall Street Gang" as we liked to call ourselves. He and I later attended UNH at the same time and later reunited at Capitol Plumbing & Heating for many years. John was a dedicated, respected, loyal coworker and a true friend. Rest in peace John. Glad you touched my life.
