John Wescott Obituary

John Wescott

Center Barnstead, NH - John Wescott, 69, of Barnstead, N.H., passed away following a short illness on Dec. 31, 2024.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Mary Johnson Wescott; his sister, E. Mary Carroll of Pembroke, NH; his brother Robert (Michele) Wescott of Delray FL, and York, ME; his nephew, Doug Kibbee of Georgetown, MA; his brother-in-law, Dennis (Dorothy) Johnson of Clearwater, FL; many adoring cousins and friends and critters.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Warren Wescott of Pembroke, and his sister, Marion Kibbee Devine of Norwood, MA.

John was a mountain of a man, with a ready smile, an easy laugh and the sweetest personality. He was a man of strong character. He had an innate sense of justice, often sticking up for others, even strangers. He was a U.S. History buff. He was also a great storyteller who enjoyed a good joke.

He loved fast motorcycles and fast cars, but spent the bulk of his road time driving long-distance tractor-trailers. He learned the trucking business from scratch, seeing 48 states and Canada, largely with his wife and road partner, Mary, with whom he shared countless adventures, both on and off the road.

For the following 20 years, he was the owner/operator of his own trucking business in the construction industry. John truly had a heart of pure gold. He overcame many obstacles in his time on Earth. He was slow to anger, never judged or gossiped about others, and was known for always taking the high road.

As a youth, he spent many happy years growing up on Sanborn Farm and exploring surrounding Penacook with his beloved German shepherd, Saber. It was there he benefited from the love of the Sanborn Family and the guidance of his role model and mentor, Dick Sanborn. He loved playing baseball and had a rocket arm that could launch a ball from left field to home plate in a hot second.

He loved the woods of New Hampshire, the beaches of New England and enjoyed many fun-filled houseboat vacations/family reunions with his extended family full of crazy cousins along the Colorado River.

John will be dearly and sadly missed by those who knew him.

A memorial service for friends and family will be held in the Spring, his favorite season.
