Marion Bean Obituary

BOW – Marion Bernier Bean passed away Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015, at Concord Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

Marion was born on Aug. 15, 1924, to the late Cyril Bernier and Florence (Kimball) Bernier of Hopkinton. She was a 1943 graduate of Hopkinton High School and, in her earlier years, worked for the Horseshoe Tavern in Hopkinton and for St. Paul's School. Later, she worked at Howard Johnson's Restaurant, Harry's Steak House, and the Archway Restaurant. She made many friends throughout her career and enjoyed the interaction she had with those she met and with those with whom she worked.

Marion was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her loving husband, Jim who, together, with their grandchildren, took annual cruises of Lake Winnipesaukee on the M/S Mount Washington and rides on the Hobo Railroad. Marion looked forward to autumn each year and visits to the North Country for foliage viewing. Favorite vacation spots were Moody Beach,Maine, and the Poland Springs Resort in Poland Springs, Maine.

Marion lived the last five years with her daughter and son-in-law, Laurel and Roland Gamelin in Bow, enjoying special time with her family, including her great-granddaughters Brayley and Ayla Jordan, both of whom had a wonderful relationship with their "Nanie."

Marion had amazing culinary skills and loved to prepare lavish holiday meals for family and friends. Holidays found more desserts on the table than people she was serving. One of her favorite hobbies was cake decorating. She made many beautiful wedding cakes for family and friends, and her children and grandchildren were blessed every year with a beautifully decorated birthday cake from Marion's kitchen. In addition, she enjoyed spending time decorating their lovely home in Bow where she and Jim lived for 35 years.

Marion was predeceased in 2009 by her husband of 55 years, Herbert James Bean, and is survived by three children, Ronald Bean and his wife, Candy of Lyndonville, Vt., Laurel Bean Gamelin and her husband, Roland of Bow and Marlon Bean and his wife, Tracy of Apollo Beach, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Kimberly Macenas, Scott Mitchell, Bonnie Sue Nesbit, Danielle Gamelin Jordan, Jillian Gamelin, Nichole Bean and Brianna Bean; and six great-grandchildren, Chelsea Barkie, Tevis Mitchell, Summer Mitchell, Chase Mitchell, Brayley Jordan, and Ayla Jordan; sisters, Alma Brown of Boscawen and Diane Hufstader and her husband, Robert of Canterbury; brothers, Arland Bernier and his wife, Winona of Cape Coral, Fla. and Floyd Bernier and his wife, Nancy of Naples, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held in the spring.
